FORMAL ESCALATION / SAFETY & QUALITY COMPLAINT
My brand-new Tata Sierra (26 BH 5365 M), purchased on 31 July 2026 from Dion Automotives, Bhubaneswar, has broken down TWICE within one month of purchase.
1st breakdown – 2 Aug (2 days old car): Vehicle failed to start at midnight while I was ~80 km from home. After repeated attempts, it eventually started.
2nd breakdown – 31 Aug: At ~9:30 PM, the vehicle suddenly stopped while I was driving, leaving me stranded on the road. Thankfully, no accident occurred. Dealership personnel arrived around 12:30 AM, but repeated diagnostic/start attempts failed. The vehicle was finally towed at 4:13 AM. I reached home only around 4:45 AM. The cause of the failure is still not identified and the vehicle remains at the service centre.
Additionally, multiple issues have been reported even during the time of delivery, including door-lock alignment, missing Sierra logo lettering, delivery-time scratch, loose rear-seat lock/rattling, trunk hydraulic noise, intermittent “key out of range” errors and intermittent seatbelt warnings.
This is a ₹17.67 lakh brand-new vehicle. After two breakdowns in one month, I have lost confidence in its reliability and safety.
Being stranded for approximately 8 hours, even just 2.5 km from home, is unacceptable. Had this occurred in a remote or unsafe location, the consequences could have been considerably more serious.
I am therefore formally requesting replacement of the vehicle with a new vehicle, rather than another repair attempt, along with a written explanation of the causes of both breakdowns and a complete diagnostic/service report.
I have retained the relevant service records, RSA/towing details and other supporting evidence.
If Tata Motors fails to provide a satisfactory resolution, I reserve all rights and remedies available to me under applicable consumer and other laws, including approaching the appropriate consumer dispute forum and other competent authorities.
@TataMotors@Schandr80504296 — I request immediate senior-level intervention and a written resolution.

Update on the issue:
I got the car back in the evening. I was told the breakdown was due to “low fuel.”
Here’s what doesn’t add up:
The car showed approximately 80 km DTE. It then displayed Low Fuel and soon stalled in the middle of the road.
I arranged 2 litres of fuel. The range increased to approximately 114 km, yet the car still didn’t start.
Later, the service centre added another 10 litres and told me that the car started after adding fuel.
Why did it take 2 days to arrive at this conclusion?
If low fuel was really the cause, shouldn’t this have been identified during the initial diagnosis?
During a conference call involving me, the Tata Motors social media representative and the service centre, the service centre representative acknowledged that there were issues with the car and suggested I visit the service centre for a trial run.
I explained that I had no other vehicle and the service centre was quite far, so I requested a cab. They agreed over the call, but never arranged one. I had to arrange it myself.
I followed their advice and went to the service centre.
But when I reached there, suddenly the explanation became “low fuel.”
Why did the explanation change?
Even yesterday, I was told they were not sure what the issue was. One person suggested it could be a different issue. I was also told that if the cause had been clear, it would have been identified earlier.
So why are there multiple and changing explanations?
What exactly was missed during the initial diagnosis, and what has changed now?
What is being missed or not being communicated to me?
There is another issue with the “low fuel” explanation.
The service centre told me to immediately refuel when the Low Fuel indicator appears.
But petrol pumps aren’t installed every 10 feet.
If I can’t reach a petrol pump, how am I supposed to refill?
Do I have to arrange a motorbike, fill it at a petrol pump, return to the car, arrange a pipe and transfer the fuel?
Is this really the solution for a Low Fuel warning?
A Low Fuel indicator should warn the driver that fuel is running low — not mean the car will suddenly become incapable of running.
Other BS6/BSVI cars continue to drive even when DTE shows around 20 km, and some have ~50L tanks.
So why did my car stop when it showed approximately 80 km DTE?
And why did adding 2 litres — increasing DTE to 114 km — still not allow it to start?
Is there an issue with the fuel-level sensor, DTE calculation, fuel delivery system, or something else?
The service managers told me that fuel was reaching the engine. I saw this myself, both on the day of the breakdown and the following day.
So if fuel was reaching the engine, why didn’t it start?
There’s another serious concern.
When the car broke down within just 2 days of purchase, the tank was almost full. The car still didn’t start and displayed multiple warning signs.
The next day, a Transmission Alert appeared every time I switched on the ignition. Photo is attached.
Was that also supposedly caused by low fuel, despite there being enough fuel?
The service centre cleared the errors after my complaint, but I still haven’t received a proper explanation.
At this point, I’m concerned there may be an underlying issue that hasn’t been properly identified or communicated.
I bought a new car expecting reliability, transparency and accountability.
I want the actual root cause, a proper diagnosis and an explanation for every warning/error.
Please look into this seriously and provide a proper explanation.
