โIf I didnโt need my gun?โ She said softly. โIโd have used my hands. Quiet. Clean.โ
Her free hand hoveredโnever touchingโjust close enough that Evelyn could sense the phantom outline of a grip around her jaw, a suggestion of power rather than the act itself. -
She didn't move. Didn't even shift.
Her eyes, howeverโ they followed every movement. The way her steps slowed, the way she crouched slightly, and the stole Evelyn's wine glass straight from her hands.
It took everything in her not to part her lips to be offered some of that โ
โA woman chasing danger,โ Juliet murmured. โAnd youโre still kicking because youโre clever. Calculated.โ The smirk softened into something subtler, more intimate. โBecause you know exactly how close to stand to the fire without falling in.โ

The door eased open with a soft, careful clickโtoo deliberate to be a mistake, too confident to belong to someone second-guessing her choices.
Juliet stepped inside like sheโd been invitedโฆ but only just. She closed the door quietly, her gloved fingers lingering on -
Evelyn was adventurousโ to a fault.
The fact alone that she was allowing a woman into her home who had implied she had a range of 'hobbies' that were suited to her current needs of thrill in her life... she had clearly lost all sense of reason.
She was lounging on her โ

She stopped a few feet from Evelyn, looking at her like she was still making up her mind.
โI havenโt decided if youโre incredibly brave,โ Juliet murmured, โor -
