What Did Arjuna See When Lord Krishna Revealed His Universal Form?

Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita 11.11:

“The Lord's Universal Form was adorned with divine garlands and celestial garments, anointed with heavenly fragrances, filled with every wondrous marvel, resplendent, infinite, and with faces turned in every direction.”

Context

In Chapter 11, Viśvarūpa Darśana Yoga (The Yoga of the Vision of the Universal Form), Lord Krishna grants Arjuna divine vision to behold His cosmic form.

Unable to witness this extraordinary revelation directly, King Dhritarashtra hears the account through Sanjaya, who has been blessed with divine sight by Sage Vyasa.

As Sanjaya begins describing the Universal Form, he reveals a vision that is not only overwhelming in power but also radiant, sacred, and infinitely beautiful.

Core Meaning

This verse reveals that the Supreme Lord is the perfect union of beauty, majesty, and infinity.

Krishna's Universal Form is adorned with celestial ornaments and divine fragrances, not because He requires decoration, but because every expression of beauty finds its highest perfection in Him.

Sanjaya describes the Lord as:

Sarvāścarya-mayam – Filled with every conceivable wonder.

Anantam – Infinite, without beginning or end.

Viśvato-mukham – Facing in every direction, present everywhere, seeing all, and embracing all.

The Divine is not confined to one form, one place, or one perspective.

He pervades everything while remaining infinitely beyond everything.

Practical Application

We often divide life into sacred moments and ordinary moments.

The Bhagavad Gita dissolves that distinction.

If the Lord truly has faces in every direction, then every encounter becomes an opportunity to recognize the Divine.

Serving another person.

Protecting nature.

Speaking truthfully.

Showing compassion.

Performing our duties sincerely.

All become acts of worship when we remember that the same Divine presence shines through every being.

This vision transforms daily life from routine into reverence.

Reflection

When we admire the beauty of the world, we often become absorbed in the individual object.

The Bhagavad Gita invites us to look one step deeper.

Every beautiful form points toward the Beauty from which it arises.

Every wonder reflects the One who is Sarvāścarya-mayam, the source of all wonder.

Perhaps the greatest miracle is not merely that God created the universe.

It is that the entire universe exists within God.

Q: Gurudev, Please speak about the different kinds of Devotees

@Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji - The 1st kind is a devotee who keeps asking, ‘God give me this’, ‘God give me that’. The 2nd kind is a devotee who is always grateful, ‘Thank u God, u gave me this and u gave me that.’ A devotee who is emotional, prayerful and keeps crying out of gratitude. The 3rd kind is a devotee who always remains joyful, keeps smiling, dancing and singing; a joyful devotee.

All three are different kinds of devotees, and yet all three are supreme. It is not that one is greater than another — that is not so. So there is, a crying devotee, a laughing devotee, and a devotee who keeps asking — which category are u in, u can see that for urself. It is possible that a little of all three may be there in u.That also is okay.

Then that would be the 4th kind of devotee — one who has a little bit of all the three present. Now, one who gets lost in fun only, somewhere or the other, he is not able to attain depth, and depth is also needed. That is why saint Kabirdas has said – “Kabira hasana door kar, rone se kar preet, bin roye kit paaiye, prem piyara meet“ i.e. "O Kabir, leave laughter behind and embrace weeping. Without crying, how can one ever find the beloved, precious friend?".

The crying which Kabirdas is talking about is a different kind of crying. It is the crying that comes out of praise, gratitude and longing. It is not the kind of crying where one feels that this or that is lacking, this or that did not happen. He is not referring to that type of crying which is for the worldly matters or maya. He is referring to those who cry out of bliss and devotion. So that is also needed.

But the devotees who are joyful are said to be the knowledgeable ones, because they know that God is right here — He is within me, and he is present this very moment. Often people think that God is elsewhere; He existed sometime in the past, or will come sometime in the future.They forget that God is right here, right now, present within everyone, present within me — this conviction should be there. We do pranayama, asana, kirtan, bhajan, seva , to know that God is inside me, right here and right now.

Q: Gurudev, why are some people so difficult, even in @ArtofLiving?

@Gurudev Sri Sri - Today, I met a man called a cheat across Europe. People wondered why Gurudev was meeting such a person.A doctor is necessary when there is a disease. Knowledge is essential when there is a problem. And you cannot separate the honest people in society into one corner. They have to live with people who are dishonest and change them. We have to create an impact in society, and not run away. You can’t just have a group of compassionate people put away in a room. In society, all types of people will be there and we need to be strong enough to influence them and not get influenced by them.

Before starting The @ArtofLiving, when I was 21, I met a 108-year-old pandit and astrologer who had written 700 books. He told me, “For any organization you need 12 people – four good, four mediocre and four hopeless people. This forms a good organization. The four hopeless people will bring out all the good qualities and the strength in the four good people. And the mediocre will learn their lessons from both sides”.

I sometimes think to myself, ‘What wise advice he gave me, even before I thought of starting an organization’. In fact, I never wanted to start an organization. I was very happy; I am happy now also. At that time, I had my little suitcase, and I would travel from place to place, talk to people and give some knowledge. This is how I started and then the organization started happening on its own.

Don’t look into the behavior of others around you. If it is not inspiring, don’t look at it. If it is inspiring then definitely take, as they must be one of the four good people. If you are focused on the four hopeless, you will want to run away, blame others and yourself, and all this negativity will chase you like a shadow. The farther you go from light, the shadow becomes bigger and you fight with ur own shadow. When does ur shadow get bigger? When you are away from the light and not facing it. That is when ur shadow is bigger than you.

The four good will never run away, they are like solid pillars. The four mediocre will try to run away because they are focused on the hopeless people.

Video | The Polokwane Magistrate's Court has heard that lawyer Charlotte Tibana allegedly told an investigating officer that she would take her own life if released on bail. Tibana and her husband, Tshwane Metro Police Department officer and social media personality, Peter Nonyane known as Gagash, are facing charges of fraud and money laundering. The couple is accused of defrauding three deceased estate accounts of more than four-million-rand. The investigation officer, Constable Phuthisho Thobejane is arguing against the bail application by the couple. Thobejane says Tibana allegedly used some of the money to purchase two vehicles, which were later registered in the name of her sister, Rirhandzu Tibane.
