EVERGREEN, Colorado – In a heartbreaking incident that has shaken the close-knit community of Evergreen, a shooting at Evergreen High School left three teenagers critically injured on Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 2025. Authorities confirmed that one of the wounded students is believed to be the alleged gunman, adding a layer of complexity and sorrow to an already devastating event.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received the first 911 call at 12:24 p.m. local time, reporting an active shooter situation on school grounds outside the main building.
Over 100 law enforcement officers, including local deputies, state troopers, and federal agents from the FBI and ATF, swiftly responded, conducting a room-by-room sweep of the 900-student school to ensure safety.
The school was placed on lockdown, and students were later reunified with parents at nearby Bergen Meadow Elementary School.

Three victims—all teenagers—were transported to a Denver-area hospital in critical condition, with a fourth minor also taken for evaluation, though details on their injuries remain unclear.
Officials described the weapon as a handgun but have not released the suspect's identity or motive, as the investigation continues.The scene was declared secure by mid-afternoon, with no ongoing threat reported.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis expressed his deep concern, stating, "I am closely monitoring the situation at Evergreen High School... Students should be able to attend school safely and without fear across our state and nation. We are all praying for the victims and the entire community.
U.S. Senator Michael Bennet echoed the sentiment, calling the event "horrifying" and thanking first responders for their rapid action.

This tragedy marks the 47th school shooting in the U.S. this year, a stark reminder of the persistent issue of gun violence in educational settings.Evergreen High School, nestled in the foothills about 30 miles southwest of Denver, is part of Jefferson County Public Schools, which has a somber history with events like the 1999 Columbine massacre.
