The Conservative (especially Cold War Conservative) argument about history and government basically looks something like this:

“Franco and Stalin were both dictators who concentrated political power in themselves and silenced anyone who disagreed with them in the process. And against this, the only non-totalitarian alternative is a constitutional liberal democracy with checks and balances and a comprehensive list of individual rights.”

You can really substitute “Franco and Stalin” here for basically any form of government that existed prior to the American Revolution, or at least the Glorious Revolution of 1688.

I’ve seen some classical liberals make exactly this argument. Charlemagne, William the Conqueror, and Justinian were all Woke Right.

And as stupid as this sounds, there is an underlying premise here. The assumption is that the most important question is how power is stricter or divided up. The concentration of power is therefore evil in the mind of the modern Conservative. Whether that power is exercised for Marxism or against it doesn’t really matter.

Unchecked executive power, the Hobbesian Leviathan, the Schmittian sovereign who decides on the exception, it’s always evil. It’s the principle thing these people wage eternal war against, even more than Marxism itself.

But the Conservative is wrong. And he is wrong because he has constructed a world where power can be permanently destroyed.

It can’t. Every political order ultimately rests on someone possessing the authority to decide in the exceptional case. Liberal constitutions have never once eliminated the concept of sovereignty. Just ask Abraham Lincoln and FDR.

What liberal democracy does is merely disguise sovereignty until it steps back on stage the moment it’s needed to sort out a crisis. But even absent a civil war or a depression, it doesn’t vanish. It’s just usually possessed by the least accountable and unelected aspects of the Federal government, the courts and the bureaucracy.

What that means is there has never been a state in history that doesn’t possess absolute power. It’s just that this absolute power is typically never wielded on a daily basis.

The question is not whether someone or something will concentrate power. The question is who or what is concentration power, and towards what ends?

It seems to me that the Franco stan right-wingers who view the Franco experiment as a failure because it was followed by a liberal-left regime are too liberal-left themselves.

The implicit belief seems to be something like: if Franco had been successful, he would have so ingrained the values of Falangismo in The People(tm) that they would have prevented the liberalism or at least put serious brakes on it.

The reality is there are no more moderate solutions for Americas future….

-Jews will still want to fleece the goy and get them to die in foreign wars.

-Blacks will still want reparations and will never be satisfied in a White as dominated society

-Indians will continue to push H1B visas, tech replacement and ethnocentrism

-Mexicans will continue sending money back home, while destroying blue collar wages and social norms.

-Arabs will be used by Jews to justify anti Arab hatred and more middle eastern wars, while they themselves create more ethnic enclaves in America.

-Actual White Americans want everyone deported and their country back.

Even if you could stop the bleeding tight now, (like an immigration halt, which you can’t in our beautiful democracy) these fundamental divisions will continue to grow, not decline.

Deportations and denaturalization were and still are the most moderate solutions… as those options dwindle, tribal warfare is a certainty.

Whether White people choose to survive or not, there will be blood.

It’s not like some leader is going to rise up and unite every ethnic tribe all over the earth. The only thing holding America semi together is a an illusion of prosperity backed up by trillions of dollars of debt… once that illusion falls, the hunger games begin…

We've been dealing with this problem for over 200 years. The victorious Allied powers half-heartedly tried to undo the entire Napoleonic Wars and the French Revolution at the Congress of Vienna, but only a handful of people like Metternich truly sought to restore the old world.

Not even the restored King of France Louis XVIII wished to completely undo the Revolution. He eventually dissolved the Chamber of Deputies because its ultra-monarchist members were "more royalist than the king".

The history of the Right since the French Revolution has been one of constant betrayal directed against their own side, because those who make up the Right have long since lost the inherently spiritual belief that they possess the divine right to rule.

The Left has not. That's what "Progress" is to them. It's the modernist version of the divine right of kings. They constantly press forward, even in the face of overwhelming public or institutional opposition, because they are utterly convinced that history is on their side and history alone grants them legitimacy, no matter how many appeals to "the will of the people" they may make for propaganda purposes.
