If you want to be a successful, professional screenwriter then it takes practice and training like any other discipline. So write, write, write. Even if it is bad. Because one day you'll get past the bad stage and blow yourself away with some amazing writing!

It all comes down to story and character. Those are your building blocks. You can't have a story without characters and you can't have characters without a story. If you don't have a compelling story with compelling characters, you won't find an audience.

Know your theme. Own it. Then tie your character's passion into the theme, and their flaw as well. It will anchor the entire thing.
