Results are in for the "City by Moonlight" dreamsnap challenge! I'm thrilled to have received another great rank but I'm even more excited with the results from our community! In my YouTube guide for this challenge and throughout my snap review streams, I covered several different approaches for this theme. One of the more technical/difficult approaches were the elevated snaps using the 3rd camera mode. Many of our community members decided to step out of their comfort zone and try the 3rd camera mode for the first time. They put forth time, effort, and a willingness to learn as we worked to critique and build on these submissions. As the results rolled in today, I felt so proud seeing how well they were able to execute the concept while applying their own spin and personal touch. It's funny, with all the snap guides and snap review sessions, I've been finding myself more invested in our community's results than my own results. 🤣 #dreamsnap #dreamsnaps #dreamlightvalley #ddlv

At first, I wasn't too excited about this theme but after building a few example scenes for our community, I actually found it rather enjoyable. Honestly, I've had a ton of night shots get 4K in the past so it's not uncommon for them to perform well. Though, for whatever reason, they just didn't seem to do as well in "Cozy Dreams" last week... Which to me is a bit bizarre as I feel night worked perfectly with the theme. Of course, several "Cozy Dreams" night shots did achieve 4K but many of the successful night shots I came across had a TON of glowing elements and light casting. There are many factors and variables when it comes to voting, and most of them are beyond our control. The approach that's helped me find consistent performance in dreamsnaps has been to play up what the "average voters" find most appealing. On Wednesday each week I make a Facebook post and a lot of players share their snaps and their results. Over the years, it's really helped me narrow down what kind of lighting, color, and composition performs best on average. I'm actually working on a new video covering this topic!

Oops... I just noticed I misread the rank. I thought that said 12,000, not 17,000, so disregard what I said about 2.5k. It's also worth mentioning that a ton of the beautiful night shots I've seen (like the one you've featured here) underperformed a bit. Makes me wonder if voters gravitated towards the brighter, more colorful shots. I've noticed that shots with more color, lighting, and saturation perform a bit stronger on average. I assumed night shots would have done better given the "dream" element, but a vast majority of great night shots ranked lower than I would have expected. As for me, I went with sunset lighting for my dream scene and landed around rank 1000. I believe the 2 outdoor submissions in the top 3 public snaps were also using sunset lighting. It seems very popular with voters.

It's a beautiful snap, and it was certainly deserving of 4k. That said, dreamsnaps are getting more competitive. Not only has Gameloft shrunk the bracket sizes (in the past, this rank would have rewarded 2.5k), but also more players are growing in terms of skill and ability. Some weeks, we're bound to pop up against other beautiful snaps more consistently during the voting process. This challenge, in particular, had a very high number of beautiful snaps. With only 4 out of every 100 players achieving the ranks required for 4K, it's getting a bit sweaty. Beautiful work, though, Slev. Regardless of the results, you should be proud of your work here. Had this popped up against other photos than it did, it likely would have landed in 4K, but my guess is you showed up alongside some strong competition this week. Cheers, brother!
