@RodeoProfessor One day after Katrina, there were lines of trucks with trailer loads of supplies lined up to unload at nearly every church in my town. They were from other churches in Texas or Tennessee, etc. They had loaded up days before were staged nearby until the storm passed. Good people.
@NathanQuinlanGC I've basically had to tear out and redo almost everything, and there's no real recourse other than report them to the State, but if they have a valid license that is all the State cares about. Thieves!
@NathanQuinlanGC I have an ongoing remodel. After losing about 50K to a local GC, I have a new rule. No licensed contractors are allowed to do anything without direct supervision. Typically they want to send subs and not be held responsible for crap work. State only cares that they have license.
@travis4nh Well the BS part of it is: If you want to make a vehicle / tractor that costs significantly more to maintain or repair, then charge less for it up front. Don't pretend that all the effort put into bleeding customers dry makes it better and worth more $.
@gmiller@BenjaminDEKR They will not stop until every human interaction is replaced by self-checkout vibes. Either because they are not good at human interaction or it is a severe case of "everyone on earth is dumber than me"
@ANT_1515@Skint_Eastwood1 Because politics today is the equivalent of Anglicans vs any other sect in 17th and 18th century England. People don't like to miss an opportunity to shame the religious convictions of others
@BretWeinstein Right now the average home is built by some hustler sending out mostly immigrant sub crews. The standard of quality is shockingly low. But still out of reach of any remotely affordable AI setup. Unless homes are built out of hi tech legos in the future.
@arcanaraccoon@maiamindel Being a fan of McCarthy I read the book when it came out, and thought the whole time it was written to be turned into a movie. In contrast with his earlier books.
@eyesnote@Noahpinion They also started out saying their goal was to replace humans with smarter machines, or at least talked about that possibility as a desirable outcome of progress
