Grassroots group aiming at Procurement Professionals giving top priority to fighting climate change through sustainable procurement. Supporting the goals of FFF
This is a newly formed group aiming at procurement professionals from around the world to jointly support the climate strikers. Through sustainable procurement one has great opportunities of reducing emissions throughout the supply chain. We just need to give it a Top Priority!
Governments around the world have directly subsidised oil, gas and coal with 1.1 trillion USD in 2022 alone. That’s five‼️ times larger than the amount in 2020. Now are we going in the right direction or the wrong direction?
Stop subsidising fossil fuels!!!

@algore If you are up for very clear words about the #ClimateCrisis without any sugar coating, I would recommend this brutally honest speech from Kevin Anderson, one of UKs most senior climate scientists:
🧵 6/7
@algore »Now, if a company says: 'Look, we shouldn’t be excluded from the COP process, we know a lot about energy.'
Well, here’s a simple test… [find it in the video] And any company that doesn’t pass this test, I’m telling you, ought to be prohibited from the COP process.«👏
🧵 5/7
@algore »What about all the energy that’s needed for Direct Air Capture? Will it come from more fossil fuels or from more solar and wind? If so, why not use the solar and wind to replace the fossil fuel burning plants that are emitting all that CO₂ in the first place?«
🧵 4/7
@algore »Now the fossil fuel industry is pushing another brazen fraud, by telling the world that the problem is not fossil fuels, but only the emissions from fossil fuels. They are using non-improving tech like CCS and Direct Air Capture as an excuse for never ever stopping oil.«
🧵 3/7
»Last year at the COP, the fossil fuel petro states vetoed any mention of phasing down fossil fuels. They say fossil fuels are not the problem. Let me tell you: the #ClimateCrisis is a fossil fuel crisis! And this industry as a whole has not been acting in good faith.«
🧵 2/7
»Do you take us for fools? Do you think you can just completely remove the disguise and we won’t notice?«
#COP28 is going to be a disaster. And the whole COP process is in the hammerlock of the fossil fuel industry.
Al Gore exposes all their plans in a brilliant way! 👏

@cloverhogan This speech was given on July 11, 2023 in Paris. Many very good contributions well worth listening to. You can find the whole session here: https://t.co/wey5YuqNwe
There was also a panel with @GretaThunberg and @vanessa_vash and others. A part of this one you can find below. 👇
»It is up to you and me to take action together. The change-makers who came before us, they knew pain. They knew grief. But they also knew tremendous courage. They dared to imagine a more just and beautiful world, especially when it felt impossible.« – @cloverhogan
🧵 3/4
»The most insidious threat we face is not the assault of the fossil fuel industry, but the illusion that people in power will stop them… Oppressors do not liberate the oppressed! Throughout history, it is activists, the people branded radical, who have.«
🧵 2/4
If you are experiencing climate despair, anxiety or hopelessness, take a few minutes to listen to Clover Hogan’s very powerful and inspiring words and learn how despair is the latest weapon of the fossil fuel industry to protect their business.

Scientists found that the #Amazon rainforest will reach its tipping point at a level of deforestation of 20-25%. (Spoiler: We already reached this extent last year). The amazon would then become one of the worlds biggest carbon emitters, accelerating the #ClimateCrisis.✌️🇧🇷

@KevinClimate This was Kevin Anderson, Climate Scientist and professor at @OfficialUoM and @UU_University as well as the Co-Director of the @TyndallCentre.
If you want to hear more talks from him, you can head deeper into the rabbit hole here 👇

@KevinClimate »It is a choice to fail and it’s a choice to succeed. If we sit back and wait for the great and good to deliver this change then we will fail. I comes down to all of us to play our role as best as we can in fighting the #ClimateCrisis. Hope arises from civility society.«
🧵6/8
@KevinClimate »I have to be honest and say as someone who has worked on #ClimateChange for years, my best guess is that we are going to fail. But it is a choice to fail. Political leaders, academia and journalism have repeatedly chosen to fail on #climate for 30 years.«
— @KevinClimate
🧵5/8
@KevinClimate »Pseudo technologies are a facade to avoid asking the difficult political and equity based questions. 'Net Zero' is a real dangerous term in my view and really means NOT zero. I always say 'net zero' is latin for 'kick the can down the road'.«
– Professor Kevin Anderson
🧵4/8
@KevinClimate »Countries make various promises about what they are going to do against climate change. These promises are a disaster and still overly optimistic because they only rely on future generations, our children and grandchildren to develop technologies that we don’t have today.«
🧵3/8
»We are locking in very high levels of sea level rise, maybe 7-8 meters. We are changing weather and rainfall patterns as well as insect pollination of our crops. All of this plays out one disaster after another. We’re talking about society collapse here.«
