This one is extremely interesting.
We have had a song in our @BeatstarsPub catalog for over a year called “PSA” by @IconicSavvy produced by @ProofOnTheTrack. We represent Proof.
The song had about 300k streams, and @Drake found it somehow, sampled it and created “True Bestie”!
Super proud of @ProofOnTheTrack for his work, but also the fact he had it registered properly which allowed #Drake to know who to contact to clear it properly.
Go stream “True Bestie” off “Maid Of Honour” and shout-out @IconicSavvy
The first two songs on #Iceman by @Drake were co-produced by two guys I have watched work, grow and stay relentless for years.
On top of that they have trusted me and the @BeatstarsPub team to help and protect them. I’m extremely proud of and grateful for @boiyanel and @skeyezbeats 🤝❤️
“Make Them Cry” co-produced by @boiyanel x @skeyezbeats
“Dust” co-produced by @boiyanel
Just got an email for a sample clearance on “Iceman” for a song with 300k streams.
The producer hasn’t responded yet so he has no idea yet.
Today will be a good day for him 🥶
The MLC is great, and every admin delivers there. But, they ONLY collect mechanicals in the USA.
So if you choose to go to them directly, you need a way to go to all the mechanical societies and other societies worldwide.
This is why publishing admins exist.
@ProducerWhisp I don’t use an admin, I actually don’t know about that. I do it all myself so I register directly with MLC myself but explain tha admin shit to me if you don’t mind?
@twogeebs You don’t need to register with MLC if you use an admin. If you choose to go to MLC directly then you need a way to collect from every other mechanical society worldwide. It’s just easier to work with an admin.
For Composition Side - Register with a PRO as a writer to obtain your IPI # - They will pay you writer share performance royalties directly
With your writer IPI #, sign up with a publishing admin to collect worldwide:
- publisher share performance royalties
- mechanical royalties
- sync royalties
Register songs with pub admin only (they send to your home PRO), include all full names and %’s. Accuracy is 🔑
For Master Side - Distributor/label collects and pays streaming master royalties from Spotify, Apple Music, etc. - Sign up w/ SoundExchange - they collect US digital performance royalties - Sign up w/ a global neighboring rights admin that collects international neighboring rights royalties
These are all separate royalty pipelines and most artists only set up distro + a PRO.
Register all your music. EVERY SINGLE SONG. If you just register each project you are leaving money on tha table, a good amount of it. It’s very tedious and can take like an hour or longer depending how big your catalog is but register EVERY single song not just tha albums
