The AI writing machines are making writing instructors extra edgy abt plagiarism & that's not good. We can't automatically assume all the students are cheating or will cheat & then waste all our pedagogical energy policing student writing.
Thanks @UFT and the staff of PS20 for this article celebrating my brother Scott Brower’s life and work. Our profound loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Scott Brower was known as both “a teachers’ teacher” and someone who could connect with troubled students at PS 20 in Queens because, Chapter Leader Jennifer Berner said, “He was a giant kid with smarts.”

#revisionandreform Sophie Bell on Writing Across Differences with a shout out to @sureshcanax 's key note that examined negotiation of meaning between students and their writing teachers.
@ProfBrowPow The job of teachers and administrators is to do a lot more of listening - to student tutors, student writers - their experiences, struggles, and needs #revisionandreform
@ProfBrowPow When translingualism is a norm, then writing centers can play an empowering role for multilingual students. Challenge: writing centers are liminal spaces with not enough power in academia #revisionandreform
Deborah Lindsay Williams, NYU Abu Dhabi: First-year writing programs still unfortunately occupy a subservient position in the University at large. Can we change that? What would happen if 1-year comp became the heart of students' experience at the university? #revisionandreform
