@jared_poulton This is a negative and evil effect/consequence of moving away from seeing babies as a gift from the Lord to love and train up to love the Lord to an object that fulfills or hinders personal desires for happiness. Just plain evil.
I propose two identities that all people are given. First we are all imago Dei and, second, we are either a child of God (redeemed imago Dei) or a child of wrath (unredeemed imago Dei). Regardless, I don’t earn or form my identity as an image bearer and I don’t form my identity as a child of God. They are both given to me. My only responsibility is to live according to and reflect my identity. That’s a super reduced explanation. If you want more you could always read my dissertation.
