Blessed, grateful and challenged to have listened to so many messages @cedarville chapel over 20+ years.
For me, the benefit of taking notes for those messages has been the actual writing and active listening (confession: haven't gone back to look at what I wrote).
“God is God. If He is God, He is worthy of my worship and my service. I will find rest nowhere but in His will, and that will is infinitely, immeasurably, unspeakably beyond my largest notions of what He is up to.” - Elisabeth Elliot
Repentance is not seen in tears; it is not seen in words; it is not seen in emotion. Repentance is long, slow, consistent change over an extended period of time because it is from the heart outward. Heart change is supernatural work.
Whether you like Trump or not, the search warrant is exactly the kind of situation NOT made for hot takes. We just don't know enough yet to understand what happened.
Jumping to conclusions is silly and performative on both sides.
Reading is an act of listening and speaking at the same time, with someone you've never met, but love. Even if you hate them, it's a loving thing to do.
- Daniel Nayeri
“The taking up of the cross is not going to be something heroic or dramatic or enviable. It’s going to be a daily practice of acceptance of small duties which you don’t really like.” ~ Elisabeth Elliot
The #SCOTUS that handed down Obergefell was legitimate. The #SCOTUS that handed down Dobbs is legitimate.
The Court's legitimacy rests on OUR ability to abide by the decisions, even when we disagree.
Work to change decisions or amend the Const. Sure, but acknowledge law as law.
Been working through this hymnal this year, looking at one each day. A few observations:
1)There is deep theology in many of these hymns. Good for the soul.
2) In many cases, verses tend to build on each other.
3) There a quite a few of the hymns that I don’t know at all.
@WOSUAllSides@maryrziegler@BJessieHill Thank you Ann Fisher for covering the issue of abortion, particularly with the pending Dobbs decision from @SCOTUS. Many of your guests have been from a progressive, pro-choice perspective. What about guests from a pro-life perspective, if we move to a post-Roe world?
Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?--
Martyn Lloyd-Jones (in a sermon on Psalm 42-43)
We have so many leadership problems w/in evangelicalism b/c we (congregations, boards, etc.) choose leaders for the wrong reasons.
