Why do demographics exist in America?

Originally, for census apportionment dating back to 1790.
Later, after the Civil Rights era, they were expanded to track disparities and enforce anti-discrimination laws.

That made sense in a country overcoming slavery and segregation.

But the goal of equality should be to move beyond permanent racial categories — not preserve them forever.

As a citizen, you are not a “minority” or demographic box.

You are American. Full stop.

The 14th Amendment guarantees equal protection to every citizen.

So why keep separating what should be One People?
