When we’re uncomfortable & skip “the race talks” we send the message that it’s not our problem
When, in fact, we are the problem

Van, thank you for expressing the sorrow and relief that we all feel. My hope is that those who hoped for a different outcome will take a moment to empathize with the pain so many of us have felt over the past four years.

Throughout the #COVID19 pandemic, we have seen the disproportionate burden this virus has had on people of color. Black people make up only 6% of our state’s population, yet represent 19% of the total cases and 25% of the state’s deaths. Racism is a public health crisis.
