Your car only starts on the second try when it’s cold. That cheap sensor on the engine might be the reason.

It is the camshaft position sensor, and it sits on top of the cylinder head. When it goes bad, the first start often fails. You turn the key again, and then it starts.

Check it before you replace the battery or the starter.

Your engine is burning oil and drinking fuel. It might not be a big repair.

Check the PCV valve first.

It is a small, cheap part. When it sticks or clogs, the engine can burn oil and use more fuel. That can look like a much bigger, more expensive problem.

Rule it out before you pay for a major engine job.
