I think Datu had always had a habit of keeping a diary. And Jae was bossy and kinda mean to him as kids since he was soft spoken so Datu would always write about Jae in his diary.

Datu is already wearing blue earrings alongside the tie. Since Datu actually has more blue in his design than Jae, this could easily be pointing to Datu's hidden family background, meaning Jae adopted the blue hair tie to show unity with Datu’s heritage, not the other way around.
