The Kotak Mahindra-SEBI-Hindenburg Issue Explained:

SEBI sent a notice to Hindenburg regarding the Adani stocks short issue.

Hindenburg replied that, in their notice, SEBI tried to shield Kotak Mahindra Investment Limited by simply referring to them as KMIL, despite the fact that Kotak Mahindra had allegedly managed the offshore funds that Hindenburg’s investor partner used to short sell Adani Group stocks.

Why did SEBI try to shield Kotak Mahindra? Hindenburg suspects SEBI left out Kotak's name to shield them from investigation due to their influential role in India, noting that Uday Kotak, a key figure at Kotak, led SEBI’s Committee on Corporate Governance in 2017.
