Rewatched War of the Worlds (2005). As far as Spielberg films about clueless dads being completely out of their depth when it comes to protecting their children from otherworldly threats go, it's not quite as good as Hook.
Rewatched Minority Report. Remember thinking this was the best movie I'd ever seen when I was 12 and honestly, in spite of having seen so many better variations on everything it's doing, I still low-key feel like it's true.
It's both noble and reductive that so many of his women exist to reflect and/or call out the men's flaws. Ginger manages to do this while also matching them - the resulting hypocrisy is what proves fascinating.
I wonder how much of this is to do with the fact that, unlike most of the other female leads in his filmography, she's actually allowed to be distinctly villainous in a manner comparable to his most memorable male characters.
What if I said that Ashley Tisdale's introductory scene in Scary Movie 5 feels like an unintentional prediction of Lily Sullivan's introductory scene in Evil Dead Rise
Rewatched Annie Hall. While I have a grudging respect for how much it's come to define the post-modern comedy film, it's still far too good at depicting how obnoxious pseudo-intellectual comedians can be.
I remember when I was first getting into the show ages back and seeing so many complaints about his character for being too broad and cartoonish. Glad to see that's no longer the case.
John Marston stepping out of that barn in RED DEAD REDEMPTION (2010) is one of gaming’s most unforgettable moments. He knows exactly what’s waiting on the other side, takes a breath anyway, and faces it head-on. A perfect ending for the character.
The Way Back (2010) is a tale of wartime survival that does recall earlier works of Weir's while having enough going on on its own to make it a perfectly acceptable capstone to his career.
Rewatched Masters of the Universe (1987). It sucks how there are glimpses of an enjoyably schlocky '80s science-fantasy here and there, but they're weighed down by the apparent need to set most of the movie on Earth.
