“I wouldn’t change a thing about my child’s autism.”
Your autistic child can name all the dinosaurs.
My profoundly autistic child cannot speak, will need 24/7 care for life and has a life expectancy of 39 years.
We are not the same.
#autism#profoundautism
@AltB56073878 I think I’d actually support them having a completely different label. I don’t like having them use the profound autism label like my son who isn’t some hidden genius that can only be found through FC.
@LizPeecock@Dropchicken7@GambelerQuail There’s Profound Autism Alliance, there’s Profound Autism Day (March 17), the IACC just recommended the government adopt the term profound autism. Sorry Liz, it’s happening. Deal with it.
parenting a child who has no spoken language is difficult enough without "neurodiversity affirming" people online saying they "get the ick" when they see parents talk about being sad that their kids can't speak to them. it's framed as us "not accepting our kids." GTFO.
RFK is insinuating that family members should be caregivers for no pay because that’s how it used to be. Not feasible today when you need two incomes to survive. What about single parents? And lack of DSPs who will work with severe autism?
The obsession of some autism self-advocates have with pretending they have it just as bad as people with profound autism is genuinely bizarre.
People with profound autism obviously have greater needs than we do, why are we even pretending that isn't true.
@ange_eme@Ecclesiasticu12@jessesingal Absolutely. That’s the new trend with profound autism and non speakers. It’s taboo to say they are intellectually disabled. They are all secret geniuses and you have to find them in there with FC. My son is profoundly autistic, but I don’t buy this crap.
