For a team, an undocumented IBM i environment shows up as slower onboarding and riskier maintenance. For a new IT leader, the cost is different. It's the credibility spent chasing answers instead of making decisions. It's walking into a budget meeting without a clear picture of what you're defending. It's inheriting your predecessor's priorities by default, because you don't yet have the evidence to argue for different ones.

You were handed a system. Not a map.

Getting a documented baseline of what your IBM i environment actually contains, what each application does, how it's built, what it depends on, changes the shape of your first year.

It's what lets you make decisions instead of deferring them. Read the guide: https://t.co/RuxW6uu2J1

Traditional large-scale IBM i transformation: years of work with a single payoff at the end. Agentic Futurization: built in months with measurable ROI at each phase boundary.

That compression matters because multi-year transformation projects don't stall at the end. They stall in the middle, when priorities shift, teams turn over, and the organization loses confidence that the payoff is still coming.

Structured to deliver visible results at each milestone, before the next phase begins, is what keeps momentum alive across an initiative that spans years. See how Agentic Futurization is structured: https://t.co/BeUtLMXUqF

When private equity acquired Western Power Sports, the assumption was that IBM i would be replaced. Then someone looked at what it was actually doing.

$3 million a day in e-commerce revenue. 99.9% of sales processed online. The entire operation supported by 3.5 people.

"They wanted to replace it because they thought the 400 was old-fashioned. Then they started looking at it... and they forgot about replacing it." — Rody Cummings, Analyst, Western Power Sports

IBM i wasn't the liability in that story. It was the reason the numbers looked the way they did. Read the full case study: https://t.co/mszLnLpFOC

11,400 baby boomers reach retirement age every single day. The IBM i developer community is not insulated from that number. The average RPG developer is in their mid-to-late fifties. The pipeline coming in behind them is thin.

Most organizations frame this as a risk to manage. It is also a window that's open right now and closing.

The companies that act while veteran developers are still available to validate documentation, review agent output, and encode institutional knowledge into Skills will be in a different position than the ones that wait for a departure to force the issue.
The knowledge doesn't get easier to capture after the person who holds it leaves.

A finance team reconciling payments against a batch that runs at 2 AM is a team that's always half a day behind what actually happened. That gap doesn't show up as a system outage. It shows up as a standing tax on how current the business's own data is, paid quietly every day the batch window exists.

Kamik is a useful example of what closing it looks like. Their IT team built Node.js applications using Profound API that took orders from Amazon, EDI, and their Magento storefront and wrote them directly into ERP and warehouse management systems, automatically, in real time.

Three separate order sources. One path into IBM i. No overnight file drop in the middle.

The validation logic RPG was already enforcing didn't get rebuilt. It got reused, exposed as a REST endpoint any modern system could call.

That's the pattern. The business logic that already exists does the work. The integration just gives it a new entry point.

What if your next IBM i fix was built, tested, and waiting for your approval before you finished your morning coffee? With CoderFlow, that’s just a normal morning.

A developer describes the fix in plain language. The agent handles the compile, test, and validation loop. What comes back isn't a suggestion or a draft. It's a verified result with application screenshots showing exactly how the change behaved, and the exact lines of code that changed.

The developer looks at it. If it's right, they approve. Nothing merges without that call. That's what governance looks like inside CoderFlow.

The agent does the execution work. The developer makes the final judgment. The audit trail covers everything in between.

Week three in a new IT leadership role. Someone asks why the order entry program behaves that way during month-end. Everyone in the room looks at you. This is a common story for a new IT leader stepping into an IBM i environment.

The systems work. The people who know why they work that way are often no longer in the building. And the scramble to find whoever has been there long enough to remember is not a personal failing. It's a documentation problem.

80% of CIOs come from outside the organization they now lead. Most are running systems they didn't design, built by people who aren't there to explain their choices. If you're new to your seat, you're the rule. Not the exception.

IBM i skills displaced cybersecurity as the top concern among IBM i professionals in 2026. First time that's happened since 2017. Nine years. And the thing that finally pushed security down the list wasn't a new threat. It was a staffing problem that's been building for a decade and is now impossible to ignore.

What we keep hearing from IT leaders going into Q4 planning: the backlog is real, the talent pool is thin, and the options they've tried haven't reliably moved the number.

Hiring takes months. General staffing firms place a resume with IBM i somewhere in it and call it a match. Offshore can look attractive on a rate card until the rework shows up six weeks in.

If you're heading into budget season with a capacity problem and no clean answer for it, what's the conversation you're having internally?

#IBMi #TechTalent #StaffAugmentation #Futurization #CIO

[Profound Logic @ProfoundLogic]

End of year is when most IBM i organizations look back at what the technology budget actually produced. The honest version of that conversation usually surfaces the same gap: a fair amount was spent, and the strategic position didn't change much. Interfaces were updated. Some debt was patched. The underlying constraints are still there. That's what modernization produces. It addresses the liability. It doesn't build the asset.

The organizations that come into next year in a genuinely different position are the ones that treated transformation as a strategic initiative, not a maintenance cycle. The questions they answered were different. Not "how do we update what we have?" but "how do we build a platform that grows alongside the business?"

Those two questions produce very different plans. Read the full futurization vs. modernization breakdown: https://t.co/Q0dHIdQTdW

Most integration conversations with IBM i go one direction: getting data out. The other direction gets solved with a batch job. A flat file drops overnight, and by morning the order, the inventory update, or the shipment confirmation has made it into the system that runs the business.

This works, in the sense that the data eventually arrives. A warehouse that sees last night's orders is a warehouse that may have oversold something at 9 PM.

Writing into IBM i in real time has its own constraint: the data has to be validated on the way in. RPG programs have spent decades encoding what a valid order looks like, what fields are required, what has to be checked before an inventory count moves. A raw write into a Db2 table skips all of that.

Profound API closes this by routing inbound writes through the RPG programs that already do the validation. The logic that exists gets reused, not rebuilt. Read how the inbound side works: https://t.co/w6phJSEE3e

[Profound Logic @ProfoundLogic]

Most IBM i organizations run the same debt cycle every year. A list gets made. The visible problems get patched. The ones without a deadline get deferred. Next year, the list is longer.

The problem isn't effort. It's that patching the most visible thing isn't the same as fixing the one that's actually costing the most.

Our process runs through five steps before a line of code changes: Discover, Identify, Prioritize, Execute, Futurize. The first three map what you have, match it to real operational risk, and produce a phased roadmap with ROI projections.

By execution, the team is working on debt that matters, not just debt that's visible. See how the process works: https://t.co/WjeMiH3KmC

[Profound Logic @ProfoundLogic]

In the 2025 IBM i Marketplace Survey, 57% of respondents cited application transformation as a top IT concern. In 2026, that number was 62%.

IBM i skills concern moved in the same direction over the same period: 60% to 69%. Both numbers are heading one way, year over year. That's not noise. That's a trend with a direction.

The organizations driving those numbers aren't asking abstract questions. They're asking because their boards are asking, or their customers are pushing back, or their recruiting teams keep running into the same wall.

[Profound Logic @ProfoundLogic]

The agentic coding question IT teams actually need answered isn't "can the agent write good code?"
It's "what is the agent allowed to do, and who controls that?"

CoderFlow's Skills system handles this at the architecture level. Skills are not just instructions for how to accomplish a task. They define what an agent is authorized to do in a given environment.

Enterprise IT teams can designate Skills as system-level, which requires elevated permissions to invoke. Read-only, which prevents state modifications. Or proprietary, which restricts access to specific teams or projects.

Agent autonomy expands within explicitly authorized boundaries. Not ahead of them.

For teams running mission-critical IBM i systems, that distinction matters more than raw model capability. The question isn't whether the agent can help. It's whether you can define precisely what it touches, and know those limits hold.

Almost every IBM i staffing provider claims IBM i experience. The difference shows up in week one, not on the resume.

A trained expert compiles and tests RPG in a live environment. Reads DB2 schemas without a translation layer. Asks the questions that reveal they've done this before: how are libraries organized, where does this shop keep its job scheduling logic.

A generalist needs weeks to get there, supervised by the senior RPG developer your team already can't spare. That's not a cheaper hire. It's a cost transfer.

Predictable delivery beats a discounted rate. The lower invoice doesn't account for the time your best people spend reviewing someone else's work.

Hundreds of store locations. Farming, processing, distribution, and retail all under one roof. IBM i systems running operations the business could not afford to interrupt. Profound AppDev's coexistence model made that possible.

Legacy and futurized applications ran in parallel throughout the rollout. Users accessed both through consistent browser-based interfaces. No location was cut over while another was still on the legacy system.

For an operation this size, coexistence wasn't a preference. A hard cutover across hundreds of locations at once was not an option the business could accept. Incremental rollout with full operational continuity was the requirement, and the architecture delivered it.

The AI coding model you picked six months ago probably isn't your best option anymore. That's the problem most AI coding platforms don't want to talk about. Pick a vendor, and you're stuck rebuilding your workflow every time a better model comes out. CoderFlow was built around a different bet: don't marry one model; build the platform to outlast all of them.

Here's how it works:
→ Run Claude, Codex, Gemini, and other models side by side, in the same environment, on your own repositories
→ Agents work in isolated containers, in parallel, so your team is never queued behind a single assistant
→ Every change comes back as a reviewable diff. Nothing merges without a person approving it
→ Access is governed by users, teams, and roles, scoped to the environments they're entitled to
→ Switch your default agent per project without touching a line of configuration

For IBM i teams especially, that flexibility matters more than any single model's benchmark score. The stack you're futurizing today needs to still make sense in a year, not just this quarter.

IBM i transformation projects stall for a lot of reasons. One of the most common: the assumption that everything has to be figured out before anything can begin. Agentic Futurization is structured around multiple entry points because organizations start from different places with different constraints.

If the priority is understanding the environment before committing to a path, our Discovery maps dependencies, surfaces hidden risk, and produces a realistic effort estimate. Right for organizations that need clarity before budget.

If green screen futurization is the most urgent need, that's the starting point. CoderFlow agents write screens in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while the RPG stays in place.

If getting off RPG or COBOL entirely is the goal, the Convert path handles two-phase algorithmic plus AI conversion with Git migration included.

If the team wants to start moving faster with AI before a full transformation program, the Agentic Coding Starter Engagement has CoderFlow live and the team running autonomously in ten weeks.

Different starting points. The platform stays with you wherever you begin and however far you go. See the full Agentic Futurization journey: https://t.co/Csu6tDsixd
