The Progressive Michigander

An account exploring how progressives can wrest control of the United States away from corporations and enshrine a government of, by, and for the people.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

The use of starvation as a weapon against civilians is a war crime under Article 54 of the Geneva Convention.

It's a war crime when Saudi Arabia does it in Yemen. It's a war crime when Israel does it in Gaza.

And American military aid to Israel facilitates that war crime.

[PalMedia @PalMediaOrg]

Chilling words from Israeli Defence Minister:

“As of now No electricity, no food, no fuel for Gaza .”

[☀️👀 @zei_squirrel]

Daniel Denvir lied on your show https://t.co/sA8p6wEiIP: The "Block the Bombs Act" does not stop "most military aid to Israel", it only touches a tiny irrelevant marginal amount of munitions that are easily replaceable, and AOCIA refuses to back an actual arms embargo and instead has the Netanyahu-AIPAC position that they can "buy it themselves".

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

So, bye, for now.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

I'm taking a break from Twitter for a bit.

Because of the Iran war and before it the Ukraine proxy war and the genocide in Gaza, I've felt drawn to know every development. The people I follow are great sources of information. But, I've been letting it consume too much time.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

And it would be one thing if I felt like the knowledge and information I receive here or the arguments and discussions I have made some difference in the world.

But they largely don't.

I have other ways (albeit not quite as fast) to stay abreast of developments in the world.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

@matthewstoller Exactly. When we've had more than 4 decades of disastrous governance it makes it a little hard to see, but Obama had the biggest mandate I've ever seen to fix our decrepit decaying system and instead sold out to the corporations and oligarchs.

[Matt Stoller @matthewstoller]

Obama is one of the worst Presidents in American history, not quite as bad as Bush or Trump. But he destroyed our faith in democracy by offering amnesty for elite lawlessness. And when you look under every social crisis - opioids, gambling, big tech - it's often an Obama legacy.

[Alan MacLeod @AlanRMacLeod]

Two things:

1. What a headline.

2. This should be leading news shows worldwide today. Ask yourself why it is not.

[Glenn Greenwald @ggreenwald]

We've become numb to how bizarre it is for US Senators like Chuck Schumer and Ted Cruz to admit what Richard Blumenthal said yesterday:

"An overriding goal that has been one of my most profound concerns since coming to the US Senate is to preserve bipartisan support for Israel"

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

@JoeHo585871 @ggreenwald No, Netanyahu represents Israel. Not Jews. He wants to claim he represents Jews overall so that he can brand people who oppose him as anti-Semites, but he doesn't.

Many of the most prominent people protesting against US support for Israel's genocidal campaigns are Jewish.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

@ggreenwald And, unfortunately, it's not even true that the political class in Israel wants the war with Iran and the ethnic cleansing of Gaza but the voters are opposed as is true in the US.

Polls consistently show the majority of Israeli voters want the it too.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

@ggreenwald Exactly. Netanyahu is using the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and Lebanon and the war against Iran to delay and avoid his criminal prosecution.

But why does that work? Because the major political forces in Israel support the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and the war against Iran.

[Glenn Greenwald @ggreenwald]

The bullshit tactic of Israel supporters is to pretend the bad parts of Israel are due to Netanyahu, so that once he's gone, everyone can and should go back to loving Israel.

Netanyahu is fully representative of Israel. That's why he's been in power 19 years. What comes after him will be more sociopathic. Netanyahu is the by-product of the evils of that country, not the cause.

@RabbiPoupko Half of Israeli Zionists want all 2.2 million Palestinians in Gaza dead habibi https://t.co/L54dqmR7cs

@neeratanden Unless it’s Palestinian land or ya know, Libyan oil.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

@IndieG_Connect @ihymacc There is no need to pull the trigger, but he absolutely should report the attack so the dog can get taken away and either be painlessly put down or kept somewhere safe. That dog is a serious threat to kill a small child.

[Isi Breen @isaiah_bb]

This wasn't even 2 years ago lol

[Alan MacLeod @AlanRMacLeod]

Yes, because you now have two homes.

[Alan MacLeod @AlanRMacLeod]

He didn't "die." He was raped to death, according to multiple reports.

[The Progressive Michigander @Progress_Mich]

@UsmanAbidemiEsq What jurisdiction?

[BNO News @BNONews]
