At AIRE, we’re designing wind turbine airfoils built for harsh conditions 🌬️
Partners IWES, @DTUtweet & @CENER_Energia used different methods to optimize performance under erosion, sand & rain—now heading to wind tunnel & rain erosion tests.
Thanks to Booster, the European Commission initiative that supports EU-funded projects in disseminating and exploiting their research results. And our gratitude to Martina Imarisio Neviani from ICONS for her work on this.
For the past few years, we have been working on wind energy research alongside MERIDIONAL and @Flow_projectEU. Last year, we launched the result of our efforts.
A tool we hope will make a difference for anyone working on wind energy.

How does real-world blade roughness actually affect wind turbine performance? @DTUtweet researchers have published new findings using high-resolution 3D simulations of scanned leading edge damage.

Have you heard of the wake effect?
In the EU’s race to net-zero, wind farms often face a challenge where upstream turbines reduce the wind velocity reaching those downstream, reducing overall energy output.

Here we are at WindEurope, enjoying a full day of sessions, including ours! Our joint event with FLOW and MERIDIONAL is now underway at N115+N116. We are sharing the results and progress of all 3 projects, with a dedicated session on WindLab. We'd love to see you!
WindLab is collaboration squared. 3 projects, the networks behind each of them, 1 shared open-access platform with datasets, research outcomes and best practices for the wind energy sector. Hear more from our Project Coordinator below, and join us April 21 at @WindEuropeEvent.
Next week at @WindEuropeEvent, our joint event with @Flow_projectEU and #MERIDIONAL. The afternoon includes tool presentations, a showcase of WindLab, model benchmarking, validation on OEM data, test cases and +. 📅 April 21, 14:00 CEST, N115+N116, Level 1 – Conference Area.
Our joint event with MERIDIONAL and FLOW is almost here. On April 21, from 14:00 to 18:00 CEST, we will be at WindEurope in Madrid presenting the results of three projects reaching their final stages. 🎙️
Field campaign completed in Gran Canaria 🔬. As part of the @ProjectAIRE, researchers carried out a blade inspection campaign on the @SiemensGamesa 5MW wind turbine located at the Port of Arinaga. Read our new blog for more: https://t.co/8rzid94WjT
In a wind farm, turbines interact through the air around them. The flow behind a turbine slows down and becomes turbulent, reducing energy for downstream turbines. This effect is called a wake. Understanding wakes is key to predicting performance and optimizing layouts.
