Great news! Basecamp was selected to attend @redbull Amaphiko connect in Bradford this weekend for a 2-day boot camp aimed at helping social change entrepreneurs to launch their project. Time to get some wings!

@rjkbreeze I still consider my foster carers home to be my family home and I am welcome there any time even though I left at 17 to live at college ( I’m 30 now!)

@rjkbreeze Universities often have their own bursaries and care leaver schemes but these are by no means universal! Almost a post code lottery. I was lucky enough to save my leaving care grant for uni(provides money for setting up new homes) many don’t...better financial training is needed!

@rjkbreeze https://t.co/0jh5QpXcG1 this should help answer some questions. When I was in foster care I wasn’t really encouraged to stay in education. I was just asked what I wanted to do. Real engagement came from my foster carers. Ended up going to university 🙌

Project basecamp is a new start up idea aimed at #careleavers and those in #FosterCare aged 16-19. Teaching transferable skills in the outdoors before embarking on a major expedition abroad. We know that they are a #disadvantaged group... in the UK alone:

Did you know: There were 94,307 #fosterchildren in the UK as of March 2016, 70,000 of those in England alone. 34% of all #careleavers are not in any form of education, training or employment at the age of 19. That's up to 23,000 young people!
