The patient either has cancer or they do not. In medicine, we can objectively test for what is true. Not so in psychiatry - for here you have a 'disorder' if the Dr simply says so, no objective test required.
If two psychiatrists disagree as to whether a patient should be diagnosed with ADHD, there's no objective biomarker, laboratory test, brain scan, genetic test or physiological measure to determine who is correct... Psychiatry falls short of the rest of medicine....
Trying to explain to my kitten that I cannot stop thunder and lightning l would love to because I'd like a cigarette but I'm just as powerless to resolve this as she is.
@khiazmos But also this includes avoidable worries. "I'm anxious about being stung by a bee therefore I avoid bees completely." will produce 0% bee stings but like "I'm worried my financial situation will change" will be near 100% true. For better or worse change continues
ACP: "Our war against the left is one of absolute enmity. We follow Schmitt's Theory of the Partisan, the left must be completely annihilated."
Also ACP: "Everyone is so mean to us. 🥺 We have to unite with Libertarians instead because the left is so MEAN. We hate to do this."
Politzer's book is an excellent introduction to the philosophical foundations of Marxism / dialectical materialism. And contrary to everything else I've read it doesn't require any knowledge of philosophy.
