“The Wonderful Wobbulator Machine for Young and Old Alike” by John Karborn:

60 generative artworks built on a very rare, hacked analogue video Wobbulator.

The series is composed of both wild wave full-rides (1/1s) + bold bouncing screw-loops (editions).

Thrilled to have finally added one of „S-namjuneauto” NFTs by @johnkarborn from @proof_xyz‘s Grails V Drop to my collection. One of just 48 pieces, each with its own sound (🔈sound on).

When the drop happened in Dec 2023, I wasn’t a Proof member yet and totally missed it. Even happier to catch up now.

I’ve known John for a few years now. Just a few digital-conceptual artists reach his level. Recently mentioned by @RaoulGMI Pal in his controversial @verse_works interview and invited to Marfa, he’s not only a visionary artist but also a great DJ with whose music taste and collection I synchronize very well. 👌

The title of the NFT unambiguously nods to the legendary Nam June Paik - a fitting homage from one exceptional mind to another. ☺️😎

Why it matters: code (Basic) from 1982, written by Franke himself, brought on-chain posthumously by @aaronpenne , with curatorial direction by @postanika and @KateVassGalerie , in collaboration with @proof_xyz and the Herbert W. Franke Foundation @Foundation_HWF .

Franke is more than an OG, he is a legend - physicist, science-fiction author, and one of the very first to write algorithms as art. Decades before “AI art“, he was already coding aesthetics. He died in July 2022 at the age of 95.

Mint settled at 2.5ETH (Dec 2023 ≈ $5500). Current floor ~ 0.49 ETH (≈ $2 000 @ $4 145/ETH) → ~ –65 % vs. mint. Implied cap ≈ $450 k for 222 pieces.

The Foundation’s advisory board - led by Dr. Susanne Päch (his widow) and including Margit Rosen @Rosen__ (ZKM) and other experts - is ensuring that Franke’s legacy and works like ZENTRUM continue to receive serious institutional attention.

Thesis: museum-grade provenance + active stewardship = sustained cultural relevance!
