Analysis π
Memphis is 3-0 and Ty Jerome is going sicko mode. Iβm selling the top tonight.
Jerome through Week 1:
34.7 PPG
5.7 APG
56% FG / 43% from three
45, 28 and 31 in his three games
Thatβs MVP-level production from a guy who came into the season averaging 9.3 PPG for his career. Iβm a big Jerome fan, but nobody keeps this pace, and the market is pricing Memphis like he will.
Part of winning in the regular season is knowing when to ride momentum and when itβs time to jump off. This is the spot to jump.
Utah was +1.5 in Memphis on opening night and got run over 123-103. Tonight theyβre only -1 at home. Flip the venue to Salt Lake and the altitude, and thatβs barely an adjustment. Thatβs where the value is.
The Lakers loss looks worse than it was. Utah dropped 47 in the first quarter, put up 123 points and grabbed 20 offensive boards. They lost because Luka went for 52 and LA hit 20 threes. Thatβs not a trend, that's an outlier.
Both teams are on the second night of a back to back, but the spots arenβt equal. Memphis tipped at 9 PM ET in Sacramento last night and now has to fly into altitude. Utah played a 5 PM home game and slept in its own bed.
And donβt sleep on JJJ getting a second crack at his old team, this time in front of his new home crowd.
Outside of Jerome, Memphis has been shaky. Rookie Cameron Boozer is 14 of 49 from the field to start his career, and they coughed it up 27 times in the Golden State win.
A talented, well coached team at home in a much better schedule spot. Iβll gladly buy the dip on Utah.
