Not sure how relevant the African/Asian perspective of today's Taiwan events are, but perhaps worth noting?? Original source here, a great read for historical parallels to this moment. https://t.co/zKUAbl8b07
Perhaps relevant for this new #Taiwan moment is revisiting Mao's decision to ramp up the Second Taiwan Straights crisis in 1958 by shelling Jinmen island. TL;DR is that these moments are almost always more about posturing and how the media/international community react
@fravel@MariaRepnikova@CNN@FT@WSJ Might be worthy to note that the CNN version of the story is almost as ambiguous as Pelosi's own statements, citing only "a US official" and using this anonymous source to claim that she will be in Taiwan.
@NeysunM The "mass line" 群众路线 has been central to party organization since the 1940s and straight through to the contemporary period! A clear cut through lime that we should start taking seriously. See Michael schoenhals work on mass dictatorship, for example
To all young China scholars in the field attempting to make arguments about the legitimacy of taking socialist thought seriously (as I am) "The Maoism of Prc History" is an absolute boon to the field, and timely at that. Thanks to @JeremyJierong and others for the contribution!
Wrote a guide to all the crackdowns in China with context and links. Will keep it up to date. @supchinanews @goldkorn@KaiserKuo https://t.co/iB3MkTefAB
In 1885, more than two dozen Chinese were massacred in Rock Springs, Wyoming. A year later, the Qing govt received a check from the U.S. govt for $174,000, just a little more than the property damage that Qing investigators had assessed: https://t.co/swyDKyafvG by @jayjamescarter
New #propaganda workshop on the Anniversary of the Murder of #GeorgeFloyd (from back in May), comparing U.S. (#CNN) and Chinese (#Xinhua) accounts of the commemoration events. Enjoy and pass along!

@NeysunM Amazing how much "national security" and "intelligence operations" effort and funding are going into these investigations, which would usually be of no value to anyone outside of a scientific community specifically focusing on coronaviruses...
