Today we @chesaboudin@DADianaBecton@Tori4SJDA @GeorgeGascon and @CristineDeBerry launched the 1st progressive law enforcement association in the nation with an advocacy arm, enabling us to advocate for legislation, ballot measure in addition to supporting policy and training
The No Kings Act (SB 747) is up for a vote in the CA State Senate today. As similar bills move forward in states across the country, CA now has the chance to lead by closing the federal accountability loophole and ensuring there are remedies if federal agents violate our rights.
Criminal justice reform is not a moment; it’s a mission. The recent election showed that voters continue to embrace principles of reform because they know the traditional system falls short on delivering safety, accountability, and justice. Reform is here to stay. @LAist
This election cycle showed that voters are frustrated but they also want solutions that address the root causes of crime, not failed strategies that led to mass incarceration.
We don’t need to choose between safety and justice. We can—and must—have both. https://t.co/zLuDCpiGFY
Sadly, California's Prop 36 passed. It will slash MILLIONS from reentry & prevention services while growing the state's prison population by 35% over 5 years for theft & drug charges.

This year, we saw voters across Georgia reelect DAs committed to justice, fairness, and public safety. We’re excited that @SherryBostonDA, Shalena Cook Jones, @DaliaRacine, and @JaredforDA will continue their work to implement commonsense solutions that keep our communities safe.
In the coming years, we will need courageous, independent prosecutors to stand up and enforce our highest principles of democracy.

"This election is in no way a rejection of reform – if it were, Nathan Hochman wouldn’t have had to conceal his right-wing past and run on a more balanced approach to prosecution."

Congrats to @MoniqueHWorrell, who has won re-election after Gov. DeSantis undemocratically removed her from office. Read our statement on her win: https://t.co/EfH9NJZnRf
We shouldn't play politics with public safety but those opposed to reform in CA are misleading voters by pushing a false narrative about crime and accountability. The truth is that we don't have to choose between public safety and justice.

The @oaklandpoliceca admits that their reported 2023 crime data is wrong "due to human error" but won't release the real stats. So their police union is knowingly using false stats to mislead the public & justify supporting the recall of DA Pamela Price.

"In the face of all the fearmongering and hostility, DA Gascón has simply done what we beg our elected officials to do: keep their promises."

There will not be a Survivor Center training in November due to Election Day on Tuesday. Make sure to get out and vote and stay tuned for details about our December training coming soon!
Prop 36 will defund treatment and crime prevention programs, making our communities less safe.
Our Executive Director Cristine Soto DeBerry recently spoke to @NBCLA about why you should vote NO on Prop 36. #StopProp36#NoOn36#Prop36

Prop 36 is a step backward for California.
This measure targets our most vulnerable communities, especially those with disabilities, by increasing incarceration & reducing funding for crucial services.

Vote NO on Prop 36.
It’s going to reinstitute long, mandatory prison terms for nonviolent offenses, eliminate safety, care, and prevention programs, and is funded by big box corporations like Walmart, shady dark money groups like the California Business Roundtable, private prisons, and sheriffs. It’s the largest one-time investment in CA’s prison system ever.
Spread the word.
