@stacy_muur@zachxbt Put the fears side by side:
- Keep it on an exchange? Hacked (Bitget lost ~$350M, Sept 24)
- Keep it yourself? Drained (Ledger users, Friday)
- Trust the math? AI might crack it
Every exit points the same way: let someone hold it for you. Someone who can freeze it.

I'm not accusing anyone. Nobody has to plan this. But every scare this week made the freezable side look safer, and the rules are already built for it.
Not organic. Not secret either.
Frozen when needed, or free but alone. Which one are you holding?
This week crypto got two scares: AI might break wallet keys (an EF researcher's worst case: "months, not years"), and ~$90M was drained from Ledger users. In both, the only coins with a backstop are the ones a company can freeze and reissue. My read 🧵

Institutions only touch crypto in a form that can be frozen: stablecoins by design, BTC through ETFs (shares, not coins).
And on Friday, the only stolen money with a real path back was the >$10M in USDT that Tether froze.
@coinbureau "The cause remains unclear" while running a siren and an all-caps SELLOFF? A big share of XRPL payments are automated micro-transfers, so a drop in payment count says little about real use. Posting "XRP Ledger" at the height of the Ledger hack panic doesn't help either.
The US government's $1B bitcoin move hit Coinbase in 71 minutes. Sold or parked? The chain can't tell you.
12,267 BTC, untouched since Feb 2024, went in 4 chunks, mostly into a pooled wallet that has handled 26M BTC.

Busy day. Pick your suspect.
AI: “could break wallet keys in months, not years.” Worst case, from an Ethereum researcher. No attack shown.
Oil: Brent above $100.
ETFs: ~$485M out on Wednesday.
Coins: ~11k gov-linked BTC moved to Coinbase Prime. No sale seen.
$BTC: 82.7k to 81.0k in 37 minutes from 16:00 Lisbon. Since Tuesday: BTC -4.9%, ETH -9.5%.
Only one suspect named Ethereum.
Our read, not a call.
⚠️Warning for Portuguese Crypto Investors: Your "Crypto-to-Crypto" Swaps Might Be Taxable🇵🇹
If you use a MiCA-compliant exchange, double-check how your swaps are actually executed behind the scenes.
Under DAC8 (effective 2026), European exchanges automatically report user transactions directly to tax authorities. That makes the technical backend of your trade extremely important.
Take Bitvavo as an example: when you swap BTC to ETH, the exchange doesn't perform a direct pair trade. Instead, it sells your BTC for EUR and uses those Euros to buy ETH.
For residents in Portugal, direct crypto-to-crypto swaps are generally non-taxable events, but a BTC/EUR/ETH route legally counts as a crypto-to-fiat sale followed by a fiat-to-crypto purchase. Surprise... You just triggered a taxable capital gain on your Bitcoin.
Make sure your exchange is doing true direct pairs (e.g., BTC/ETH) rather than routing through fiat in the background.
@Cointelegraph What Ripple is financing: leveraged ETFs reset daily. They give 3x of each day, not 3x of the year.
That gap is big in choppy markets. $BTC is down about 6% this year; a 3x daily-reset version, simulated, is down about 49%.
Leverage pays in trends, costs in chop.
@cryptorover What a fresh address actually changes: most Bitcoin addresses hide the public key until you spend. Reuse an address and the key is already public.
~7.1M $BTC show their key today (ChainQuery, 5 Oct): 5.2M via reuse, 1.9M by design (old P2PK, Taproot).
GM,
About 1 in 3 bitcoins already shows its public key on-chain.
That's the "bunker mode" debate. Nothing is broken: exposed = key visible, not stolen.
Spending reveals an address's key; reuse puts new coins behind it.

gm. Asia took $BTC through 84k.
Overnight low ~83,577. Oil up on Hormuz tanker attacks; dollar and the 10y (~5.31%) followed. Roughly $487M of longs got flushed in 24h.
One more print: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs still took ~$119M on Oct 6 (IBIT ~$122M). ETH ETFs lost ~$202M the same day.
Risk-off wick. BTC funds still buying. Fed minutes later today. $83k is the line.
Not financial advice.
