We spoke to MLAs about Northern Ireland now being the only UK nation not to commission the clinically effective treatment - abiraterone for men with high risk, non-metastatic prostate cancer and why it is vital that this discrepancy is addressed.
We were pleased to participate in a drop-in event hosted by the Northern Ireland Cancer Charities Coalition in the Northern Ireland Assembly yesterday.
Over 2,500 men in Wales are diagnosed with #ProstateCancer every year.

We’ve come far in the fight against prostate cancer, but there is still further to go.
I've been working with @ProstateUK to make the case for Abiraterone to be made available for men with high-risk prostate cancer.
My letter to NHS England on this life saving drug👇
In light of the growing body of evidence around screening the APPG on #ProstateCancer we were delighted to hear from experts from within the European Praise-U consortium earlier this year about the approaches and methods being undertaken in other countries.
“If you’re over-45 and you’re black. If you’re over-50 and you’re white. Get a PSA blood test and you’ll catch it early.”
Sage advice from @colinmcfarlane about the importance of getting yourself tested for prostate cancer.
I have a test annually. I’ve been criticised by GPs for encouraging men to get themselves tested and for calling for a screening programme. It doesn’t look like we’re getting a screening programme so I’ll keep encouraging men to get tested.
We need to break the stigma of asking.
The Government has launched the country's first ever Men's Health Strategy. We’re glad to see the Government prioritising prostate cancer care.
And it's with thanks to @BenObeseJecty acknowledging the moment in Parliament with today's Early Day Motion

Great to see real action to improve prostate cancer care in the first Men’s Health Strategy: faster testing, easier access to monitoring, and fewer hospital visits so men can track their risk and make informed choices.
More to do – but this is real progress! 💙

Prostate cancer is now England's most common cancer. Across the Midlands, more than 1 in 5 of men w/ prostate cancer get diagnosed when their disease has spread and can't be cured.
