Save Peterborough's countryside! In 2017 2,500 homes were planned for rural west Peterborough. Now, a new Local Plan threatens John Clare Countryside again...
Surely this cancellation of the A47 dualling project will put an end to plans for a township on Peterborough’s historic countryside?https://t.co/nZlIYGsdI5?
This Easter, we're celebrating not just renewal and hope, but the natural beauty of the Peterborough countryside. Together, we can protect it for future generations to enjoy.
Let’s keep our landscapes wild, our footpaths free, and our wildlife thriving

Happy Easter from the Heart of the Countryside!
As we enjoy the beauty of spring—blossoming trees, buzzing bees, and peaceful walks through the fields—let’s remember how precious our green spaces truly are. 1/2

🌟SAVE RURAL PETERBOROUGH🌟
Been to the site #Peterborough Council want to build 1,800 houses (plus 1,200 in another phase) north of #Castor & #Ailsworth😢
It’s beautiful. If I am Mayor - the site will not feature in my
plan. I shall push to take it out of the Council plan 💙
This is a much more appealing approach from @HomesEngland - driving regeneration and investment to build homes rather than destroying John Clare countryside outside Peterborough

Residents will soon be able to have their say on the Draft Local Plan when the public consultation commences on 11 April.
The new Local Plan for Peterborough, sets out a vision to support new homes, workspaces, transport, community facilities and other infrastructure, outlining how the city and surrounding villages will grow and change over the next 20 years.

🗓️8 May | Queensgate Shopping Centre (outside O2) | 5pm-7pm
🗓️10 May | Peterborough Museum | 10am-4pm

The Joint Scrutiny Committee has recommended the site be removed from the Local Plan. Here’s why…
Proximity to Castor Hanglands SSSI.
Damage to the environment would be too great to mitigate (Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust)
PLUS infrastructure will cost £100M in tax payments
Change to this area during the 1800s drove John Clare into a spiral of despair. What would nature’s poet have made of this…Wildlife Trusts object to new homes plan near Peterborough - BBC News @ProtectRuralPB @JohnClareSoc https://t.co/x1nATa9n4D
“We have put together evidence that shows this is the wrong development in the wrong place for all sorts of reasons - flood management, archaeology and nature being three of them" https://t.co/mdDqovThEl
Thank you to the Peterborough councillors who are standing up for what’s right. There are better, more efficient and less damaging ways to deliver on housing goals

Peterborough City Council has published a new draft Local Plan including 3,000 houses by Castor & Ailsworth. It’s disappointing in the face of mounting evidence that John Clare’s countryside is not suitable for large scale housing: The wrong development, the wrong place.
Regeneration, not expansion. Investing in city centres creates jobs, attracts businesses and retains talent. A better way for Peterborough than the doughnut city?
