On the final day of #COP30, we worked through the night on the outcome text. It may fall short of what you believe is fair, but you must stay in the room to defend the interests of your people and the generations who will live with the decisions we make today.

In his speech at the @UNFCCC#COP30 in #Belem, @moecc_sl Minister @JiwohA reminded everyone that "the world does not have the luxury of time, and neither do the people of Sierra Leone" when it comes to the climate crisis.
“We need countries to honour their commitments. The Paris Agreement clearly states who's responsible for historical emissions and what their role should be in helping…vulnerable ones like Sierra Leone, to be more resilient.”

#COP30 🇧🇷 | Minister @JiwohA represented the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) in consultations on #Finance & #JustTransition agenda items, with the COP presidency. Consultations are held with Parties to try to get convergence on draft text before it goes to the COP plenary.
"Countries like us are already at the forefront," Sierra Leone's environment minister, @JiwohA, said at Tuesday's roadmap press conference.
"The cost of adaptation is increasing much faster than we can afford." https://t.co/rNeJSBEFIU
“For a country like Sierra Leone, the climate issue is an economic issue.”
- Minister @jiwoha addressing the media at #COP30, following a joint press conference with fellow environment ministers from Germany, UK, Kenya, Columbia and The Marshall Islands.
🇸🇱 At #COP30 in Brazil, Minister @JiwohA - representing President @julius_maadabio - called for stronger global action and fair climate finance for vulnerable nations:
“Let COP30 be where ambition met action, investing in resilience and adaptation for all.”
The NDC covers five key sectors: energy, transport, agriculture, waste, and industry, linking mitigation with adaptation. It commits to cutting our socio-economic vulnerability index by half by 2030 while promoting inclusive growth. #protectsierraleone
Sierra Leone’s #NDC 3.0 sets out a clear pathway to cut emissions and strengthen climate resilience. It aligns national priorities with the goals of the Paris Agreement and provides measurable targets backed by data and actions.
My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Jamaica and the Caribbean islands in the path of #HurricaneMelissa.
As extreme weather events become more frequent, we need to prioritize our planet's well-being more than ever. May everyone stay safe and protected.
By ratifying the BBNJ Agreement, Sierra Leone reinforces the President’s climate agenda and joins the world in ensuring that the oceans are governed responsibly for the benefit of all humanity.
