@MeredithDMU No. There are some US-centric questions, as I am from the US and formulated the survey independently, leading to personal bias in the questions. There will be a formal academic study version later with better formulated questions.
I'm launching a survey on disabled experiences in adolescence. As far as I can tell, it's the first survey of this kind that includes people without a formal dx. Please boost it if you can- the more people this reaches, the better.

1 year without max. #grief is like a chronic illness, not a broken arm. just like with my disability and chronic illness- my grief flares and gets better, but its always here. you can't cure it- but you can manage it. its a different way of thinking of it but it helped me a lot
language talk time! able body v nondisabled: able body focuses on physical disability and excludes people w/ cognitive & developmental disabilities + mental illness. nondisabled includes all kinds of disability & doesnt focus on physical disability #NEISvoid#DisabilityTwitter
self dx is valid with mental illness. self dx is valid with chronic physical illness. self dx is valid with neurodivergence. here are some barriers to formal dx: money, marginalized identities, inaccessibility, rarity of condition, insurance type, bad doctors & medical abelism
types of wheelchairs: transport chairs, manual chairs, power chairs. transport: has handles, tall back & you cant push yourself. manual: can be standard or custom. can have tall or low back, all have the large wheels you can push yourself with. different foot rests & arm rests /1
“oppositional defiance disorder” is a bullshit term used to make abusive parents and caregivers feel like they’re not actually the problem, it’s a scapegoat diagnosis that fully places all the blame on traumatized neurodivergent children
The statistics for disabled people show a clear and present need for disability to be a larger part of the conversation around sexual assault and rape. Please keep that in mind when you see those conversations arise.
End of thread.
Sexual assault is a disability rights issue: A statistics thread.
Disabled people from the ages of 12 to 24 experience twice the rate of sexual assault as their abled counterparts. The only age group with a close rate is 65+.

The groundwork for this is also laid in a fundamental disrespect for the bodily autonomy of disabled people. Forced institutionalization is still a specter over mentally ill people, and conservatorships and guardianships usually strip us of a significant amount of freedom.
