Since 1979: Committed to breaking the cycle of #homelessness and return to incarceration for families. Over 500 women & children live at PH every year. 501(c)3
PH is urging @CMChiOsse to stand strong in opposing @NYCMayor's proposed budget cuts. Urge your CMs to direct their focus to holding harmless the housing, homelessness & #supportivehousing community during budget negotiations. Email/call script here: https://t.co/lWtEB9G1Wj
Urge @NYCMayor to reverse the remaining 10% of his 15% budget cuts & to hold housing & homelessness agencies harmless & ensure the remainder of the proposed budget cuts don't trickle down to city-contracted nonprofit agencies providing #supportivehousing. https://t.co/XnSDzm4Zo3
"There are more children in shelter than seats in the Barclays arena. We need HAVP." - @chriscquinn president /CEO of Win. 100+ groups across NY agree, HAVP will help thousands move out of shelter, avoid homelessness, and save NY millions. Tell @GovKathyHochul NY needs #HAVP now!
At today's budget hearing CM @OsseChi asks about gov't salaries for caseworkers at HRA saying that they are set too low to overcome hiring challenges yet, nonprofit contracts are funded so poorly that we cannot afford to even match what gov't pays for the same work #JustPay
@RitaJosephNYC has named funding for the DOE’s shelter-based community coordinators as one of her budget priorities! Providence House just signed the Organizational Sign-On Letter in support. We think you should sign too to support this initiative:

We are proud to have participated in the 5th Annual American Roundtable to Abolish Homelessness. Thank you @artnextpractice for convening a national conversation around issues impacting homeless women. #abolishhomelessness
Thank you for having us at the non-profit Symposium this past Wed @BrooklynChamber and @BklynFoundation! Such a great panel of amazing women in the field, and an inspiring speech from Dr. Jocelynne Rainey (@JSRainey216). We must take action for equal opportunity in non-profit!
Last week, in partnership with @prosehair, we launched our new employer-focused trauma workshop. Our united goal is to support community members of all backgrounds and to create a safe, supportive workplace for all. Stay tuned as we share more details to come!
Thank you @GovKathyHochul for signing the #FHEPS voucher increase into law, and to @BrianKavanaghNY@LindaBRosenthal for your leadership! This critical reform will prevent families from entering the shelter system and deliver enormous benefits to families facing eviction
Thank you Judge Lippman for echoing #BEYONDrosies call to place women of Rikers in a permanent Manhattan site run by a nonprofit with trauma-informed care.
We are so grateful to all the people with lived experience who helped create and tirelessly advocated for the passage of the #DVSJA including @WomensCJA’s ED Sharon White-Harrigan. To find out more about the DVSJA go to https://t.co/spF6Mzih18

Providence House stands ready to continue working with @GovKathyHochul@NYCMayor and @WomensCJA to decarcerate women into their communities and create a stand-alone women’s facility with programming that preserves the essential connections between women and their families.

We stand firmly with the @WomensCJA leaders of the #BEYONDrosies to demand:
1. #CloseRosies
2. Decarcarate those who can be served by community-based alternatives
3. Secure permanent downstate facility for <100 who remain
There hasn't been significant investment in housing for the lowest-income Americans in nearly 3 decades. Congress has a chance to change this & should invest ≥ $45B in the National Housing Trust Fund + $180B in rental assistance. #HoUSed@theNetworkNY

With the first parcel of #Rikers transferred out of DOC control last week, we are one crucial step closer to the #RenewableRikers vision. NYers are celebrating & calling on @NYCMayor to transfer additional land before his term ends.

#LGBTQ individuals in the U.S. prison system are at an extremely high risk of sexual harassment, assault & violence behind bars, with transgender women (who are almost always held in men’s facilities) left particularly vulnerable. #BEYONDrosies#ProtectTransWomen#WhatAboutHer
@CSHInfo Rates of homelessness are highest for people who have been incarcerated more than once, people recently released from prison, POC, & women. When returning citizens are stably housed, they have fewer non violent offenses, helping them stabilize their lives in the community
One example – parole may tell someone they can’t live with a relative who has a conviction record, subjecting them to longer stays in shelters where many residents also have conviction records. It makes no sense. We need #LessisMoreNY and #fairchanceforhousing
