I was diagnosed as a teenager with ADHD in 1996. My parents were told it was rare in girls. I was prescribed 9 dexamphetamine a day. 3 in the morning, 3 at lunch and 3 in the evening.
That same diagnosing paediatrician who was so certain I met the criteria for ADHD never once mentioned autism.
I received my diagnosis for autism 6 years after my own son's diagnosis at age 40.

This is what happens when parents of Autistic children ring services that are supposed to be there to help families in crisis. We're told to ring these numbers! But we were given the wrong information, we were told there was nothing they could do.

Big shout out to Lloyd, from Department of Child Protection Crisis Care in #WesternAustralia. When I begged you on the telephone for help, you told me that at that time of night there was nothing you could do. You then proceeded to tell me (and then my husband, because I couldn't deal with your shit anymore) to go to the wrong district office in the morning.

My child is Autistic. It shouldn't matter what time it was, For the record it was 7PM Wednesday evening. I was calling because we are beyond our capacity to SAFELY parent a child with a complex disability.

My child remained missing from the home til 1PM the following day.

We still have no support. Thanks.
