Much has been written about what people think about pain or other persistent symptoms. By comparison, there has been less focus on how these beliefs come about. We explore this here: https://t.co/KVo64boa18
#injury#pain @DisabilityRehab
@BillingMartin Results: The MRDA had 100% sensitivity for detecting micro-rotatory lag, had perfect intra-rater reliability and was deemed highly acceptable among expert clinicians
Conclusion: MRDA is a valid clinical test to detect minute and probably normal differences in tissue stiffness
@BillingMartin I think for ‘evidence’ to be convincing/belief/behaviour-changing (for anyone), it has to feel relevant and align somewhat with a person’s pre-existing knowledge base.
Think about the last time you saw a GP who gave a Dx that did not at all correspond to your experience…
@AsafKlaf Reminds me a bit of the ‘tooth fairy science’ analogy (explained in link). I’m sure I’ve been guilty of it. Sometimes I wonder if research findings would look different if we were made to test the opposite of what we thought(/wished!) to be true 🤷♀️ https://t.co/Ydpz8OAhOB
@PeteOSullivanPT@mikeinglephysio That said, many of these ppl had tried different treatments, had many investigations, had been told all sorts of unhelpful things over this time- so potentially a proportion may have gotten better without contact with HCPs. Unethical to test tho! 🤷♀️
@PeteOSullivanPT Thanks for sharing this. What a person feels within their body bears much greater weight/value than what they hear. This was definitely echoed in some qual work I did trying to explore how people understand the cause of bodily symptoms.
@LSharpeUSYD Can’t beat the warm fuzzies you get from hanging out with a few hundred other people sharing a collective interest in pain ! Love the conversations it sparks.
@pierstruter@vincavalheri@RobWallerPT Probably a silly question- but how would this be different to a model where a Physio in an advanced scope role (so primary contact) sees patients in the ED?
Just over a week until #APS2024 in #Darwin! ‘Not sure’ (!) what topical session to attend on the Monday morning? Come along to to ‘The only certain thing about persistent pain is…that it’s uncertain’ session. Looking forward to presenting with a simply lovely team. @AusPainSoc
