There's people with insane amounts of talent (observable here) but they just don't have many good ideas for mods
Granted, my ideas aren't very good either, but I try to make things that people would want. Meanwhile a lot of stuff feels like it was only made for 2-3 people
FNF fans really will have absurd talent in making art, and just go "Yeah I'm just gonna put myself in the game. NO interesting design traits or nothing, literally just me but put in the game. And the chromatic will sound like every other self-insert on the planet" πππ
From a quality level the vibes are wonderful with the song's happier tone fitting the stage really well
But the design's just kinda bad. Identical to countless others. I can't imagine anyone looking at this archetype of design and going "YEAH I want to play as him".
@ShultzNG You're a really skilled artist, it's just always disappointing to see all this talent used on something that blends in with dozens of other mods
The .fla for the mod menu answers my question: adding in a bunch of random easter eggs.
The "pinhead" character has FOURTY seconds worth of animation! If Dave is the one who animated him (very likely), it's really clear that he does not care about efficiency whatsoever
Until the update is done, what the hell have they been doing for the last 7 months? It was planned to release in late 2025/early 2026 if the sp collab never happened, so what the fuck is causing all this delay, it should be just sprite remakes right (unless Dave is really slow)
Kade says the Funkin' Crew is in this period where they cannot show anything, or communicate until the Week 8 update is complete.
He also confirms that the main social media accounts for Friday Night Funkin' will be controlled by Hundrec after the update releases.
@LemonBluezYT Online might just be a placeholder, local multiplayer is possible
The update might also come with a new rendering mode for vector (flash-like) sprites, dunno if it's confirmed to be in 0.9.0 or later
There will also be a new mechanic but it's probably only applicable to week 8
@ZackDroidCoder I think a lot of the more casual fans of the game are pissed about the game not getting the real content update, which is justified (Dave needs to lock in)
But the work from the maintainers really should be appreciated more, you guys do a lot of great stuff with the engine
@ZackDroidCoder It's a very good preview. Showcasing the game's new organization is really good for future-proofing mods to work with 0.9.0, same with releasing the mod menu-related assets.
It would be really nice if the story menu got shown off a month before 0.9.0 so modders can adapt π
@psykoevie It's a bit too early for that, isn't it? I get the impression that it'll still be a while until they release (or even show trailers of) the update.
I can appreciate them allowing modders to future-proof their work for the new organization, but it's too early to go full optimism
@azuwure_ This time it has actual new art assets. During the few other previews this year (mainly the camera editor), it did not feature any new art or animations.
@Glaceon836597@FNFGooeyMix It's usually the proportions getting adjusted, like the head being bigger, or details like the tail base and hind legs getting redrawn
@sparkdoubt@SPG642 The most stark problem is their complete misunderstanding of deadlines. They have missed countless deadlines, nothing happens, so it becomes arbitrary to them.
Plus Dave's biggest frame of reference is Nightmare Cops, which has been in development for over a decade
@sparkdoubt@SPG642 Most of the crew seem to have had very little real-world experience, so they most likely have a poor understanding of how to estimate time. They expect the time it takes to work on a project to be steady, but it fluctuates depending on how tedious it is. (1/2)
I don't believe it can get better from here, sadly. We thought so during 2024 and it did for a period, but then the updates became more and more delayed,
With all the time they've spend on this single update, there's no way they can make up for the time in dev hell
This is going to sound completely FUCKED but I'm just gonna say it. Some of these developers deserve to go through crunch time.
Some of them (the "contributors": abnormal, hundrec, kade, etc) are perfectly fine. But others (looking at you, Dave) need to change, fast.
