It’s with a heavy heart that @PsychTraumaAfg has come to the decision to suspend our anticipated 2020 launch in Afghanistan, due to COVID-19.
Our board looks forward to reassessing this project if/when conditions & schedules align for us.
Best,
Drs. Ahad, Yang, Niazi, Zisman
These inhumane practices only cause more harm to our most vulnerable populations in #Afghanistan. They must and will be replaced by therapy programs backed by research implemented by trained mental health professionals. We launch February 2020.

Happy #WorldMentalHealthDay#Afghanistan!
Let’s continue healing one another by breaking down cultural barriers attached to mental health.
Daily habits help regulate brain chemistry:
Sleep
Nutrition
Exercise
Music
Socialization
Deep breathing
Nature
Laughter
Touch
Time to change this:
“More than half the Afghan population, including many survivors of conflict-related violence, struggle with depression, anxiety, & post-traumatic stress, but fewer than 10 percent receive adequate psychosocial support.”

@sashna111 America has more reliable and robust data collection methods as compared to Afghanistan, where violence and cultural stigmas associated with mental health create hurdles in getting more accurate statistics on mental health.
Over 2 million Afghans suffer from depressive and anxiety disorders. Not only are there stigmas associated with mental health but also a lack of strictly psychological services available in #Afghanistan.
