They’ve had 5 different SIE CEOs since 2019, and have pivoted their strategy around 7 times with Sony proper’s blessing often pivoting just months apart. They’ll do it again.

Nothing on Xbox runs “on Windows.” Everything is virtualized inside isolated containers managed by NanoVisor. A PC game would run in a full Windows‑based container the same way other Xbox containers work

@DeePlaysGaming @RGamerB_ The apps and the console UI run under a completely different OS partition, each in its own NanoVisor container. Games run in their own virtualized OS too. Xbox isn’t “just Windows”, everything is isolated and managed by NanoVisor.

Different containers use different virtualized OS environments. For Window games they just add Win12‑based container for NanoVisor to run.

Heck Xbox could easily have a translation layer, its own Proton like system.

PS5 is a PC, OS based PC FreeBSD, built from PC components. Xbox is a PC for same reasons. Just because you fall for marketing does not make it any less true.

Same thing happens on PlayStation, just reversed. Sony literally removed features on PS5 by killing the real web browser PS4 had.

@CodyAlanAllred @thechurroman27 @BeastOfTruth Wrong. SteamOS isn’t “games‑only” - it’s a full Linux distro and can run most Linux desktop apps.
Xbox OS also isn’t some distinct, standalone OS family. It’s a customized Windows NT build.
macOS and PlayStation OS share BSD roots, so they’re basically cousins. iPadOS, is unique

Or how SteamDeck run Windows Games on a Linux Kernel using Proton. Helix running Win games with its own compatibility layer

By your logic because they are different products (different FreeBSD kernels, different hardware, different binary, different sys calls, diff expected locked speeds) it shouldn't work should, right?

They ignored that opportunity the government was giving them and instead appealed. They lost and continued to lose appeals, until there were no more appeals, which time they were deported

PC) are a driving factor for gaming growth. BTW, first party is down this gen over 50% vs previous IP iterations nmbrs on PS4 (SM, GOW, Horizon)

@iamoffie_ @PeterMc89_ @SuperGunzy EPIC has spent 5 years trying to compete and the store is still losing money. There is no way Sony would spend the necessary long-term funding required to get a store on PC going, with no guarantee of success.

@iamoffie_ @SuperGunzy Maybe because that hasn't worked so well for larger software publishers trying to avoid Steam with their own launchers. I guess if Sony wants to sell far less content on PC then that may be the way to go.
