There's a difference between being hired because of your gender or skin color and being hired because you love that line of work. I don't know anything about you. Maybe you are a super fan and got hired on merit alone. The problem is when some groups get hired over others, publicly stating that out was race or gender, that only seems to be a problem if that race and gender was white male. Merit based hiring and promotions is the best way of doing it.
