Seen the viral clip of Joan Laporta saying, "If the World Cup final referee is fair, Spain will win."

That's actually a kind of mistranslation.

What Laporta said was "el árbitro se impone," which means "if the referee imposes himself on the game, Spain will have more chances of winning"—i.e. he controls the match well, keeps players in check, and doesn't let it get out of hand.

It doesn't necessarily mean "if the referee is fair." Those are two different ideas. 🇪🇸🇦🇷
