Tremendo artículo del @nytimes sobre cómo los artistas puertorriqueños sacaron la cara por la isla después del huracán María. @charohenriquez#AUnAñoDeMaría https://t.co/WF7NDIEvUk
It's been a year since Hurricane Maria landed on Puerto Rico. @lilliamr wrote this essay for @ELLEmagazine on how it has affected her family and also her relationship to the island. Please read & share it.
@NPRinskeep@adrianflorido Thanks @NPR for reporting the tragic situation in PR during Maria, but most importantly, after... As Adrian said yesterday at #365Maria@cpipr conference, the after is more complicated given our history, politics, and relationship w/ USA. Keep reporting, it is very appreciated!
Flags fly at half staff today in Puerto Rico, on this, the 1yr anniversary of Hurricane Maria’s catastrophic landfall on the island. Governor @ricardorossello announced that today is a day of mourning on the island. The official government death toll is 2,975.
Someone in Puerto Rico just told me: “Trying to forget that a year has passed already, but it’s impossible. The wounds are still fresh. We got through a lot, not so during the hurricane, but for months after. There’s a lot of #PTSD out there unattended.” #mariaanniversary
NPR News has been covering the storm and after from as soon as we could get journalists on the ground there.
Here is a look back at the last year.

The Puerto Rican tourism agency has been pushing for media to #covertheprogress in Punta Santiago. So we did. Here's what we found: mold, falling roofs, people living in garages and on the floor. https://t.co/e38hkPz9UW
Families in Puerto Rico are still dealing with the aftermath of #HurricaneMaria. Many are still grieving the loss of their loved ones — and many remain displaced. We have much to do to make sure our fellow Americans are able to recover from the devastation.
Today marks 1 year since #HurricaneMaria devastated #PuertoRico. Please read & share. This isn't over, especially for survivors like these. “There were days when I would cry in the morning when I woke up because I didn’t have a job," one survivor told me.
