Donald Trump's @FCC is targeting TV programs that touch "gender identity themes," which would treat the normal presence of LGBTQ people on-screen as a reason for heightened warning or different rating. That's wrong.
We partnered with @LGBTTech, @publicknowledge, @http_policy and @HispanicFed to remind the FCC they have zero authority to influence TV ratings. https://t.co/mbFrcrSjV7
Today, @publicknowledge joined @LGBTTech, @ProgressChamber, and others in filing comments at the @FCC in opposition to its proposed content warnings for 'gender identity issues' in TV programming. Our statement from Legal Director @bergmayer:

🚨 Today, @MarshaBlackburn, @ChrisCoons, @SenThomTillis, & @SenAmyKlobuchar reintroduced the #NOFAKES Act, which would create a broad right of publicity that would address the problem of digital impersonation by prohibiting most unauthorized uses of a person’s voice or likeness.
However, many of the bill's provisions prioritize the entertainment industry and its concerns at the expense of the overwhelming majority of people the bill allegedly protects — posing imminent danger for many Americans, particularly those at heightened risk of abuse online.
.@publicknowledge applauds Sen. Luján and Rep. Matsui for championing those who need devices and training to participate in our digital world. Read our statement from Broadband Policy Director Alisa Valentin at the link below:

🎉 Today, @SenatorLujan and @SenMarkey introduced the “Digital Opportunity Foundation Act” to establish a nonprofit foundation to help close the #digitaldivide by leveraging public and private investments. @DorisMatsui introduced a companion bill in the U.S. House.
“If you fail to properly diagnose the problem, you will fail in your abilities to solve the problem.” Today, the @FCC voted to “streamline” the agency’s broadband data collection by reducing the number of ways consumers can challenge providers on coverage claims.
The FCC collects this broadband data to support its National Broadband Map – a tool designed to help close the #digitaldivide by identifying communities lacking high-speed internet access. “Streamlining” the data collection may undermine the map’s effectiveness.
High-profile cases of teen suicides following long-term AI chatbot usage have spurred several bills from Congress to protect youth online. But not all solutions are created equal, Policy Analyst Morgan Wilsmann warns in her latest blog post:
