Sovereign Citizen Thinks the Rules Don’t Apply
Two bodycams. One self-described sovereign citizen. And a case that would later turn far deadlier than the officers could have known.
This video shows two separate Gig Harbor, Washington bodycam encounters involving Aleksandr A. Shablykin — recorded just months apart — and both take on a chilling new meaning in hindsight.
In the first encounter, Shablykin rejects police authority, insists the law does not apply to him, and uses language commonly associated with the so-called “sovereign citizen” movement. In the second, officers encounter him again during a later Gig Harbor incident that ends in his arrest.
According to public reporting on the released footage, that later encounter was tied to a Jan. 4, 2023 trespassing case. Shablykin was reportedly taken to jail on the trespassing charge along with outstanding warrants. Reporting on his prior history also referenced traffic-related cases, including driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance.
Years later, Pierce County authorities identified Shablykin as the deceased suspect in the Feb. 24, 2026 Key Peninsula stabbing case, where four adult victims were killed before a responding deputy shot him at the scene.
All individuals are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court. This video is presented for news reporting, commentary, public education, and documentary purposes.

On January 26, 2026, Phoenix Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire inside a home near 7500 W. Lower Buckeye Road.
What officers encountered was chaotic.
Bodycam footage shows officers arriving as shots were still being reported inside the residence. Commands of “Show me your hands!” are heard moments before an officer-involved shooting unfolds. According to police, two men were found suffering from gunshot wounds. One died at the scene. Another was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators later stated that the man fatally shot by police had reportedly disarmed the original shooter prior to officers’ arrival. It was identified that Rendon was the person who died, but police didn’t say who fired the shot or shots that killed him until Giordano’s statement.
