Public Power SD is a coalition of environmental & social justice organizations leading the fight in SD for a sustainable & just public gas and electric utility.
SDG&E has significantly raised our energy rates since taking SD’s power franchise in June.
SDG&E says they are “required” to raise our rates. This is a LIE, or a deliberately deceptive truth.
SD law does NOT require a rate increase.
SDG&E’s greed DOES.

Thanks to all the volunteers who attended today’s @SDCityCouncil Rules Committee meeting to speak in support of a public power utility for @CityofSanDiego like the ones in other cities in California.
There were many excellent comments today that can be viewed here in support of @PublicPowerSD

No savings with SDCP?
SDGE profits from infrastructure affecting your bill. SDCP only manages buying/producing electricity.
Back the Power San Diego Initiative for a nonprofit utility owning infrastructure, targeting lower rates & clean energy. #WeArePowerSanDiego

Despite our moderate weather: San Diegans pay the highest electricity rates in the nation!
Support @PublicPowerSD - help create a new publicly owned system, where residents pay much lower rates.
Signing the #PublicPower petition will help end this investor owned monopoly that’s been gouging #sandiego ratepayers for over 50 years.

@LindiaL@jim_desmond A community-owned non-profit wouldn’t make $3million/day in net profit and would put money toward modernizing the grid and infrastructure, and not beholding to shareholders nor the CPUC.
@LindiaL@jim_desmond Wrong, San Diego community power only deals with acquiring electricity for their customers, SDG&E make all of their profit on transmission and delivery, the largest part is your bill.
SDGE makes $3million/day in net profit for their shareholders and executives off the backs of SD ratepayers. It also supports Sempra’s fracked natural gas business, counter to the City’s and County’s Climate Action Plans.
@jim_desmond This is why the BOS need to advocate for a community-owned, independently operated, non-profit public utility for San Diego County. The investor-owned utilities only care about profit for their shareholders, not the ratepayers of San Diego.
Saturday is the day, people! Outraged by SDG&E's exorbitant utility rates and want to see change? Sign the petition and bring your energy to the rally this weekend! ⚡️🤟 See you there!
Come out and join us to demand that the San Diego City Council hold SDG&E accountable for their outrageous utility rates and corporate/monopolistic profiteering.

Come out on April 1 at Noon, City Hall/Civic Plaza Downtown to tell the City Council to hold hearing on SDG&E's rate gouging and demand that the City begin transitioning to a non-profit, community-owned, and Union-staffed Public Power system.
