On October 14, 1977, while speaking at an event in Iowa to promote her campaign to roll back anti-discrimination laws protecting LGBTQ people, Anita Bryant is hit in the face with a pie.
Bryant had been a spokesperson for the Florida Citrus Commission until the Florida Orange Juice Boycott was launched- one of the first national gay consumer boycotts targeting Florida orange juice. Prominent entertainment unions and artists denied services to Bryant, and public appearances drew heavy protests. The widespread controversy and financial pressure led the Florida Citrus Commission to let her contract end in 1980.
Bryant passed away in 2024 and is currently rotting in hell.
