Maybe the athleticism of just playing will help too.
But my kid just read “My Teacher is an Alien” and said it was the 3rd best book he’s ever read. I don’t know. 🤷🏽♀️ I just don’t think he’s ready for the pressure of elite sports at 10. But he had a stinkin’ good day. 3/3
Here’s the deal…
Kids need to play. Organized sports. Unorganized sports. At recess and PE. They need to jump in the pool trying to catch a ball. They need to shoot at a goal on uneven ground. They need to run through a park or woods or city streets with their sibling. 1/2
And they need to do it without college sports or heck—little league sports—on their mind.
I will cheer so hard for your kid when she gets that scholarship or when he goes pro. That is so fun.
But let them be kids right now.
@TheGreatB00ks If you listen to Just in Case by Morgan Wallen, you’d have the answer. All of the side trips and side chicks are a good distraction. But he’s holding out on forever elsewhere just in case…
As a lover of the Great Books, I have to fight the urge to tell the ladies with an Hermes bag the many things Hermes is known for in classic literature. On the other hand when I read about Hermes, I think about those hard to obtain purses I’ll never have…
My students graduated last night. Off to the big world of junior high. I sit here without students 10 minutes into the school day. Is this how empty nesters feel? My work is complete. My body is tired. My mind is on summer. But my heart hurts.
As a lifelong Utah Jazz fan who still tears up remembering the Bulls in the 90s, I am actually pretty excited about all the Chicago buzz. Pope Leo XIV. Wow.
A student wore a Razorback shirt to school today. I was honored. I gave her a hug. It is rare to impact a child in West Texas to the point they love the Hogs!
I dropped them off at Art. It is paint splattering day. She wore the shirt to ruin it. And now I’m crying in a corner.
Parents - when your child’s school has a grad rate over 90% but a proficiency rate below 30%, your child is getting a worthless piece of paper after 12 years of schooling.
