Tracking the analogy that politics is pro-wrestling since 2007. Interested in the hyperreality, theatre and psychology of U.S. politics.

Donald Trump's foray into Politics was always going to be—"Arrive. Raise Hell. Leave."
Many mistakenly thought his campaign would last for just one election cycle. A look back at 5yrs of the Donald Trump Show.

@edcoper "(32m 04s) All of the Republican voters when asked... they answered the Trump one. They know it's not true. That's the kayfabe, that's their guy. That's the team...
What is politics? It is a tribal ingroup, it is a team."

"(9m 05s) It is not your grandparent's social media outrage. This is something different. This is something where all proportion is lost. It's all theatre now.
Now it is about trying to be more extreme. More ragey..."

@edcoper "(30m 50s) We're tribal creatures and a wrestling match is where u pick a side and u go for your wrestler to defeat the baddies... they mirror the geopolitical enemies of the day... we want to suspend our rational and reason based parts in our brain."

@blob1972453@Ozzytourer@rukie29@karlstefanovic@elonmusk We should always be able to question people in power. That’s why the gap between our leaders can’t be too far apart in terms of accountability.
Too much power and money separating us isn’t good for anyone. Otherwise we’re beholden to them for our voice, freedom and income.
@MarkDiStef Fear not. Whenever there is silence and indifference, an unseen tweet or unheard podcast.
There’ll be a crawler out there, scraping that content for training data.
@DrewPavlou Coercion is in the zeitgeist moreso than ever. Job precarity has always been a thing, we’re just seeing more high profile people (judges and journalists) in the crosshairs.
@GollumGekko1@coffeebreak_YT Regulators perhaps.
It would be upsetting for people who took things seriously to realise what they held to be true was actually pro-wrestling.
@complex_maths@DrewPavlou Agreed. It’s a disingenuous dunk.
It’s like saying “our way of life is only possible due to immigration and cheap labour”. Perhaps, but there’s a way of doing things and applying pressure to get things that work out for everybody.
"(2m 57s) Somewhat genuinely held, but maybe an element of trying to demonstrate the thesis.
I have many deeply held grievances. If you package them up in a bit of rage, a bit of anger. That's the hack."

The UFC was in dire straits..."
