It marks the beginning of my next chapter as a wildlife conservation storyteller - where every species, every landscape and every extraordinary moment in nature has a story worth documenting.

Neelakurinji reminds us that nature does not follow our clocks. Some wonders ask us to wait. Some appear only once in a generation. And some secrets remain hidden until we take the time to look.

Kerala is not just a destination for tourism. Beyond its famous landscapes lies a living treasure of rare plants, wildlife, medicinal species and countless ecological mysteries waiting to be discovered.

A masterclass in climbing down a tree, leopard style ! The mother guides her cub, adjusts its footing, and the little one follows.

A 40-year study published in the Journal of Animal Ecology found that leopard mothers cared for their cubs for 9 to 35 months, staying with them longer when prey was scarce. Even after the cubs stopped suckling, their mothers provided most of their food until they became independent.

And what stays with the young after they leave ? A 2024 Nature Communications study of wild brown bears found that offspring’s feeding habits resembled their mothers’ even after they leave, partly through learning during their time together. Different species, different skills, but a familiar truth, so much of life begins beside a mother.
